I am sure you have all heard about it. Trees were crashing down all over the place, and it was a real mess. We just got our internet service back. We had no electricity, no phones and no cable for 13 days. Telephone poles were snapped like matchsticks, and flooding everywhere. We had a swimming pool in our basement, because the electricity that runs the sump pump was out. We got a generator from a friend in Connecticut, and it saved the day in that it kept my freezer frozen and ran the pump to get the water out. Later in the week we got a bigger generator and sold the other one to our neighbor, who really needed it. He had two cut up frozen deer in his freezer, because that is what they eat! That generator saved all their deer meat! Anyway, I hope your place out in Margaretville is OK, I heard that the river was running in the streets there. We are fine, other than having to live for more than a week like they did a hundred years ago! We had creek water to flush the toilets, some rain water to do some cleanup with, and bottled drinking water for the rest. I had a cell phone that worked, and a car charger to keep it going. We had camping lanterns for light, and I read my kindle every day. My Amazon bill is going to be phenomenal! We took a shower by running a pot of water from the drinking water bottles, heating it on the gas stove (lit with a match) and then taking it into the shower stall and pouring it over ourselves. It worked! That is how our grandparents took a shower, I am sure. Hubby and I went out to the diner to eat every night. They had a full course meal, so I just ate his soup and maybe a mouthful of his entree. He got the salad, the entree and the dessert that came with the meals. It was a good deal. I am losing weight steadily, since I can't eat much. I feel better already. Love to all, Evelyn |

Local streets in teh towns are still c=, or should I say, again, closed. Yesterday they started evacuations of peole again. there were boats on margaretvilles, Main Street rescuing people. Worse than '96 and today I read that the stream bank right alongside our road up from route 30 caved and the road was closed. It seems to have been opened again by this afternoon. I keep checking the watershednews web site for the latest info. I don't know when zI will be able to get back up to see for myself, as I have no car and cnan no longer drive. My kids are not happy about me being up there. there is no spermarket as it was flodded out. Nearest is either Boiceville(that dink one) or Delhi about 22 miles West of us. Glad you got trhough that "Little House" experience. Wendy |

I don't know how you could get up there without a car! Do you have friends who could take you? Is there anyone you know who lives up there who could check on your house? I am nearer to Kingston of course, but I have been to Fleishmanns and it is a nice little sleepy country town. All I have heard about Margaretville and Phoenicia has been tragic. Many businesses were swept away. Who would have believed these little country streams could turn so deadly? I heard about one woman who went to visit her father and the whole house had been swept away. I don't know if she located him. Fortunately I sustained little damage here, and we are OK for it all. Trees came down, but no home damage. Many people had trees fall on their houses. We have hundred foot tall trees around here. Evelyn |

All high voltage towers, and therefore somewhat slow to restore. That day's tornadoes all missed this part of the county, though. Robert Miles |
