Default Ready-mades as charcoal baskets?

I have a horizontal offset smoker, the Silver Smoker (NBBD). I'm
hearing good things about charcoal baskets, but they aren't readily
available in a size/configuration for my smoker. So instead of
spending $50 in expanded metal, parts, and tools THEN having to put
something together, I figure I'd look to see what's out there that
might work. I came across this:

http://www.stacksandstacks.com/html/...ome-basket.htm

Will the larger one work? Or do we think chrome next to hot coals is
a bad idea? I'm thinking if I put it in and burn down (on HIGH) two
baskets of charcoal, either the bad stuff will burn off or the basket
will crumble apart.

Has anyone found anything out-of-the-box that would work well for that
smoker? Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Your question confuses me. Firstly, I use a New Braunfels
Silver Smoker. The NBBD is it's big brother called the Black
Diamond. The Black Diamond is nearly twice the size of the
Silver.

Secondly, I can't imagine what one would do with a charcoal
basket in a Silver Smoker. I simply dump fuel into my fire
box from a five gallon bucket. Also, such a basket would
make it impossible to fit the grill grate in the firebox.

What purpose would the basket serve?
