I'm looking for something new to try! I love Strega, the Italian liqueur and
wondered if there is a way of producing a wine with a similar flavour.

I've seen, on the Internet, a Strega extract for desserts, etc., and see no
reason why this couldn't be used for winemaking but I have no idea as to
quantities. Also, I haven't tried to get this in England yet and it may not
be possible.

Any suggestions, please? And any other ideas for unusual wines.

it is some 30 years since I last lived in Italy -- surely if my memory is
correct "Strega" is a cheaper Italian brandy -- or it might be just a brand
name!

No, it's not a brandy. It's, as I said, an Italian liqueur produced using
approximately 70
different herbs (according to the sales blurb!). It has a beautiful flavour
and the brilliant yellow colour
comes from the saffron added to the infusion before a long fermentation in
oak vats. I think the main ingredient is Bergamot but I really don't know.
It's certainly not cheap here in Sussex, and not easy to get. I had to buy
the last bottles through a local Italian restaurant. It's made in Italy

However, I know you can get Strega extract (though I don't know from where),
for use in desserts, ice creams, etc., so wondered if anyone had tried
making a Strega flavoured wine with it. It wouldn't be as strong as the
liqueur but then not as difficult to get or as expensive either but should
make a very nice after dinner wine!

I'd be grateful if anyone has any experience or suggestions on this subject.
