Default [TN] My first Torrontés

While recently trolling a local retailer's shop for value whites
(several Cono Sur wines and an '06 Allram GV were the lure) I came
across several well-priced Torrontés wines and decided to take a chance
on a couple. The first one, opened with a light supper tonight:

2008 Trivento Torrontés "Select" Mendoza ($9.99)
nose: floral notes, stones and stone fruit, alcoholic heat
palate: moderately acidic, unoaked, somewhat soft, crisp finish, cleanly
fruity

Somewhat reminiscent of Pinot Blanc in the nose, the wine had a somewhat
offputting level of heat in the nose (13.5% ABV), but was acceptable
with food. Jean felt that it might have a touch of RS as the mouthfeel
was quite soft though there was noticeable acidity to the wine. A bit
too heavy for a summer quaffer and a bit to soft for a dinner wine, but
all in all not a bad showing.
