Vegan (alt.food.vegan) This newsgroup exists to share ideas and issues of concern among vegans. We are always happy to share our recipes- perhaps especially with omnivores who are simply curious- or even better, accomodating a vegan guest for a meal! |

Neanderthal diets - Plants and cooked foods - PNAS
They like most homo groups ate whatever they could get their hands on. It should not be a surprise this includes these items. This is evidence now beginning to appear. It has been clear for much longerof the hunting and consumption of animal products. Now the picture becomes more complete as could be predicted. |

So there was no genetically increased selective pressure for a particular new type of food after leaving the ecological niche and there was no genetic deselection for those foods eaten before the digestive system was established in the ecological niche of human ancestors. * > It should not be a surprise this includes these items. *This is evidence > now beginning to appear. *It has been clear for much longerof the > hunting and consumption of animal products. *Now the picture becomes > more complete as could be predicted. I don't know what the concern is here. It is well-known that cooking degrades the digestive system, destroys most nutrients and produces synthetic carcinogens. And despite the fact that ancestors resorted to meat consumption when food wasn't available, meat intake still contributes to virtually every disease. C. |

I note that you have mentioned "ancestors". I think that is accurate for European Neanderthals (natives of Neander Valley, Germany). However, the 'assumption (/conflict of interest)' that Neanderthals are extinct now may be open to question. They could'nt have magically disappeared (does not jive with what you see all around either). < I hope to read the research some day when I get more time... Thanks for the efforts. > - HSN. |
