Hi Mary:

Look at topic 30 in the FAQ's:

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.f...3fc86e3f68e7ef
(which = http://tinyurl.com/y4e6cr).

Carl's friends do it all the time so there is no reason to believe it
wouldn't work for you.

There is also a recent thread he
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.f...080d0e93f149d2
(which = http://tinyurl.com/y4azxv )

Between the two, I think you will get what you need. If not, search the
archives with the key words drying starters.
BTW, I have yet to try and revived a culture that I have dried so this is
based on others' experience not my own.

Hope this helps,

Ray

Or just try http://www.nyx.net/~dgreenw/howcanis...tertosome.html
and http://www.nyx.net/~dgreenw/canifree...mystarter.html .

Or try this : http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q=drying+starters

Awesome as usual Dick.

Here's how I do it:

1. Mix an active starter into pancake batter consistency.

2. Pour a thin sheet onto a clean plate.

3. Allow it to dry -- can take up to two days.

4. Chip it off.

5. Reactivate the starter by mixing the chips with flour and warm water.

PS to message above --

You can seal the dried chips and store them in the refrigerator for quite a
while.
