I am looking for a good, high quality citrus juicer (preferably electric). I've searched the internet for recommendations. A couple of websites recommended the
Breville 800CPXL Die-Cast Stainless-Steel Motorized Citrus Press (on Amazon for $196.95) and the Eurolux Electric Citrus Juicer Stainless Steel 160 Watts Of Power Soft Grip Handle And Cone Lid For Easy Use (on Amazon for $49.87).

Does anyone have any experience with these two models or have other recommendations?

sorry, no, i usually just eat them whole.

What sort of use will the juicer get? Is it for something that will be
used many times per day or much less frequently? That can make all the
difference in your requirements.

Breville certainly has a good rep in general, but I wish I had more
direct experience to share. Do you have a mixer for which you could
get a juice attachment? That might work, too. I have never heard of
the Eurolux at all.

My electric juicer is - no exaggeration - is at least 35 years old. A
Proctor-Silex that has performed beautifully, albeit no more than
weekly all this time. I have made a lot of lemonade and many lemon
meringue pies with that thing, as well as the usual orange juicing.The
current P-S ones do not resemble it all, or I would heartily recommend
it..

Thanks for your reply, songbird and sorry for my delay. While I agree that juicing destroys a lot of the fiber (which I do like), sometimes I prefer to have only the juice. Sunshine

Hello Boron, Thank you for your thoughtful reply and sorry for my delay. I will most likely be using the citrus juicer every day to make orange juice and / or lemonade.

I do not have a mixer for which I could get a juicer attachment, unfortunately.

Your 35+ year old Proctor-Silex juicer sounds like a gem. Wish I could get one like this.

Given the opportunity, I'd stop by a place or two that stocks them so
you can take a look. Not sure where you are and most B&M stores carry
few different models, but looking at several might help you make your
final decision so that you have something that is a good physical fit
for your counter/ kitchen, seems easy to dismantle, clean, and put
back together and has some decent heft and construction to it.

Around here in the NE part of the US, the lower-end and moderately
priced ones would be at Bed, Bath and Beyond and the higher end ones
would be at Williams-Sonoma or Sur La Table.

The one I have is called a Proctor-Silex Juicit and you can find them
on eBay ranging from impeccable condition to use-for-parts-only.

This is a good idea - to go to the stores and look at the citrus juicers. I had planned on doing this during one of my grocery shopping trips. I'm in central NJ. There are a couple of Bed, Bath and Beyond stores near me. There might be a Williams-Sonoma store in the Freehold Raceway mall near me.. I've never heard of Sur La Table, but I'll look this up on the internet.

Sur La Table has a store in Willowbrook, in Wayne (15 mins from me),
and one in the Garden State Plaza - none near you, but BB&B should
help - even a WalMart might carry multiples, though I am not sure if
the stores will be enjoyable for a week or so.

Thank you so much for finding out that there is a Sur La Table in Freehold. Your thinking is the same as mine regarding the stores not being enjoyable for a week or so. I avoid these kind of stores at this time of year - the December silly season. I may check out the BB&B, Williams-Sonoma and some other stores if I don't decide to go ahead and purchase one of those vintage Proctor-Silex Juicits on Ebay.

The P-S Juicit that you gave me the link for looks fantastic. A couple of questions that I have in mind about this: It appears that to operate this Juicer, I just place the half of the orange or lemon on the porcelain auger (cut side down) and the auger spins automatically when turned on. Does this efficiently ream out the orange half entirely? Does one need to press hard to get all of the juice out?

You do need to exert pressure downwards on the fruit. I have been
fortunate enough not to find that burdensome, but if you have issues
with hand/wrist mobility or strength, this might not work out for you
and you may need to seek out something that works automatically.
Alas, I have no experience with those designs

I will say that I have rheumatoid arthritis, and have not found the
P-S a problem, but I have been fortunate in its minimal effects on my
hands. Not all are so lucky.

No problem here (thankfully) with hand / wrist mobility or rheumatoid arthritis. Did you find that your P-S efficiently got out ALL of the juice? No rush to reply, whenever you can is fine.

The juicer works well. You will find, however, that some varieties of
citrus, even within oranges or within lemons or within limes, will
give up more or less juice.

To get more juice from your fruit, roll it around on the counter a bit
or zap it in the microwave for about 10 seconds before juicing. I do
not recall exactly what that does - something to do with the
membranes, but it does help.

Hi Boron, This is good to know. Interesting information on how to obtain more juice from the fruit.

Pardon my delay in replying. Have been busy with the holidays and such.

I've written to the seller of the vintage Proctor-Silex Juicit (the one that you gave me the link to) on Ebay with questions. Have not heard back from seller yet. Maybe busy or away due to the holidays.
