Default Making pickles needs cool space

I've wanted to try making some old fashioned dill pickles like my
grandmother used to make. She used to put the crock in her basement
pantry where it stayed cool through the summer. Unfortunately, my
house has no basement. With the weather being hot during the summer,
how can I make these pickles?
