Default Idea's wanted for party food ????

Hi All,

I have this family reunion that is out of town and it's in the U.S. & I was
told that everyone should bring a dish. So I can't cross the boarder with
any meat or alcohol products. There goes my mexican chicken salad & sangria
idea. I'll be staying at a family members house so I was thinking that I
can make something there the night before. So far I thought of a bean salad
which doesn't thrill me but it tastes really good or I can make a few dips &
bring the crackers.

Got any other suggestions?

Thanks & Take care,
SPOONS

What about a fresh fruit salad? I like to just mix grapes (seedless),
bananas, mandarin oranges, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries (dip
the bananas in lemon juice so they don't get brown). Mix the fruit,
and pour a little orange juice over all--maybe sprinkle a little sugar
if your berries are tart. Some mint leaves on top as a garnish.

It's a pretty, simple dish--and most folks like it a lot.

Also, here is a recipe from allrecipes.com, that doesn't have meat or
booze--looks very good--I've had something like it, and it is delish.

Why? Prices aren't exhorbitant here. Can you bring in fruits and
vegetables? I didn't think you could. So, bring your salad dressing
ingredients and buy the rest of the ingredients on this side of the
boarder. A preroasted chicken can take the place of home roasted.
Liquor is cheap here, so sangria is back ON your list.

I suggest you change your attitude because your idea is delicious. I
wouldn't have told you not to change the menu if you were staying in a
motel, but you're staying at a relatives house. You CAN do it!

You just reminded me of a favorite fruit ending to a Mexican meal...
peeled oranges sliced so you see the "pie shapes" (chilled) and
lightly dusted with cinnamon.

Exactly! I was wondering if the OP thought maybe we don't have those items
for sale in this country

Before you make a decision, try to find out what the other guests are
bringing. You don't want to bring a rice dish, for example, if several
other people are also going to bring a rice dish.

Will the party be indoors or outside? If this reunion will be outdoors,
perhaps a dish that doesn't need to be kept warm such as a green salad
might be best. If you'll be able to plug in crock pot, perhaps some
chile might go over well.

Well, are you going to post *your* recipe or just make us drool at the
thought?

ok don't laugh but it's a Weight Watchers recipe & it's very tasty.

I changed the chicken to boneless skinless chicken breasts that's been
marinating in Old El Paso Taco seasonings overnight and then grill it, then
slice it & top the salad with it...very Yummy!!

Enjoy!
Take care,

Southwestern chicken- bean salad
POINTS® value | 5
Servings | 4
Preparation Time | 20 min
Cooking Time | min
Level of Difficulty | Easy

This crisp, refreshing salad takes only minutes to make if you begin with
precooked chicken breasts, available at most supermarkets. Serve our salad
as is, or roll it in tortillas for finger-lickin'-good wrap sandwiches.

Ingredients

2 medium scallion(s), chopped
1/2 medium sweet red pepper(s), chopped
1/2 medium bell pepper(s), chopped
15 oz canned black beans, rinsed and drained
2 piece corn on the cob, kernels removed
2 Tbsp fresh lime juice
1 Tbsp corn oil
8 oz cooked, skinless chicken breast(s), chopped
2 Tbsp reduced-sodium taco seasoning, about 1/2 a 1.25 oz packet
4 Tbsp cilantro, fresh, chopped
4 Tbsp fat-free sour cream
Instructions

1. Combine scallions, peppers, beans and corn in a large bowl; toss until
well mixed.
2. Add lime juice and oil to bean mixture; toss to coat. Add chicken,
taco seasoning and cilantro; toss. Top with sour cream and serve. Yields
about 1 1/2 cups salad plus 1 tablespoon sour cream per serving.

Have you explored the regs at all? Carrying a raw chicken or a bottle
of booze is probably verboten, but if you haven't already, I would
check the status of a cooked dish and prepared drink-with-wine.

As for other suggestions, a platter of crudités with dip(s) is usually
welcome. In fact, veg dishes of any kind are usually sparse in group
situations. Quiche is easy to transport and versatile. A selection of
bread or rolls, maybe? And of course, any desert item.

Thanks, Sweetie... some of the best recipes are WW - otherwise how
could they get people to stick to a diet?
