All,

I received an old KitchenAid KSM90PSWH from my parents upon college
graduation. Only problem was that the motor had got bum, but that it
would cost less to get it fix than purchase a new one. My question
is, is it worth fixing this model or should I buy a newer type model?
Does anyone know of a website where I can purchase a replacement
motor?

If it can be fixed to reasonable condition, then I'd keep it. The
motor probably has more 'guts' than newer models.

Chris: Rats got to one of our K5's and I rapidly found out that that
model is difficult for the user to get into. Gave it up for lost, and
bought a refurbed KA ( I think it's a 6, but I can't be sure as it's
in storage for the moment while we remodel.) Later, on a whim,
we took the oldie to the KA repair center in Houston (estimates
for repair were *very* reasonable) and found it was worth repairing
after all. Did so, and oldest son claimed it immediately.

KA's in general, have been very robust. The newer computerized/
solid state units have yet to develope the reputation the older K45's
and K5's have.

buy 2 bowls and flat beaters for his K5's. I asked why he needed
new bowls and flat beaters. Seems he runs an assay lab and
used the K5's to mix rock samples prior to assay to get a better
result. He had the units for over 20 years and had the motors
re-wound and gears replaced, but they kept on going with this
abuse. Quite a testament to their robustness.
