Default Steaks?

Seasonings and Greetings : )

Okay, don't laugh at me. I really don't know, so I have to ask.

Can you do a nice steak on a George Foreman grill? Is that blasphemy? I
don't have the booklet anymore, and I've never heard of anyone doing it. If
so, how?

Stop that, I saw you laughing

Thanks, folks ~ cheers : )

I've done nice steaks on the George. I rub the steak with olive oil,
sprinkle with coarse salt and fresh ground black pepper. Boneless steaks
work best (the bone holds the lid up, preventing even cooking). Also, if
you like it rare or medium use a thick (at least 1") steak. That way you
get it nicely seared before the interior gets too done. I let the grill
preheat for at least 10 minutes, then cook the steak for 5-8 minutes, then
turn it over and 90° to get even cooking. Then an additional 5-10 minutes.
Using a digital instant read meat thermometer, I cook it until it's 135°,
then let it rest 5-10 minutes. I've had the best results with choice or
prime ribeye or NY strip.

Why is it that most nudists are people you don't want to see naked?

Maybe, but they'll possibly break not only themselves but your wallet.
Plus the customer service is non-existant.

I own one of those grills and wouldn't put steak on it. They tend to dry out
the meat, IMO. And they don't crisp the fat the way I like it either. I used
mine for a few times and it's now in the garage in a box. Some folks say they
are great for roasting veggies. I didn't like any kind of meat on mine- not
even hamburgers-- because it made the outside taste like leather.

Also, how large is your grill and is it for sale? ;-)
I have the smallest Foreman grill available and would really like a
larger one!

Have you tried making grilled sandwiches on it? Works well for that too.

What brand is it? My foreman gets hot enough to sear the outside of the
meat nicely, and leave the middle rare if I time it just right for beef.
And I've NEVER had better, more juicy pork meat than what has been
cooked on the foreman!

I normally hate boneless skinless chicken breasts, but I can at least
make them edible on the grill. I normally use boneless skinless thighs
tho', and they come out wonderful as well!

I s'pose if you prefer well done beef, you might be having a problem
with it. Cooking time is critical as these cook hot and FAST!

Now you've got me confused as well as curious! I'd never heard of
the "George Foreman Grill" as such; then you go and mention "brands"
of the device! So that "GFG" is generic like "biro", is it?

I did a bit of a google before getting down as far as your article in
the thread, and surprised myself by turning up a page of one of our
large variety retailers (Target -- which is at the lower end of the
Coles-Myer product lines) which actually sells genuine GFGs! See:
http://www.target.com.au/html/foreman/foreman.htm

Do the things illustrated on that page look like the things you are
talking about? I see they come in the usual three sizes: Regular,
Family, and Jumbo. :-) You say you would prefer a larger size -- so
what's the problem with the small ones? Just capacity, or some more
fundamental issue with cooking quality and or convenience? [Note that
the prices on that page are Oz dollars. Currently AUD1.00 buys about
USD0.76. So how do our prices compare with yours?]

No, I haven't tried those. That would probably be better since the casing would
hold in most of the juice.
They are decent for grilled cheese, I suppose.

Mine is a smaller one and it is a Foreman - fits maybe 3 smallish burgers or a
couple chix breasts. I got it when they first came out- about 5 years ago?
Maybe 6 or 7 *laughs*. I'll see if I can dig it up after the holidays and
measure its size. You are welcome to have it. *smiles* It's possible that the
newer versions cook better than the first generation. I was not impressed with
it in any case.
