Alex, that's not fair, since his shitty driving would have damaged a
conventional or hybrid as well. It's not the Nissan's fault that its
driver is a poor excuse for a human being. It's not Joe's fault, nor even
Donald's, that Chambers Road has potholes.

I'm driving a 1993 Geo Metro that I paid $600 for a year ago, and I've
put maybe $500 into repairs. That's about 30K miles I've put on the car
in that time, for frame of reference. The car gets 45 MPG.

The money that you put into that car for repairs is absurdly wasteful.

He's been told that here for years and years now...he's spent thousands this past year *alone* on that stoopid Leaf...and then there is his gasoline - guzzling van "Baby"...

In addition to totally lacking common sense, he's bi - polar, which greatly adds to his carelessness with money...when he gets a few bux he'll immediately squander it on stoopid shit like LP's, antique audio crap, etc....

What can one say about a person who spends $120K on a tile roof (with COPPER GUTTERS...!!!) for his house - when the house alone is *not* worth that much...

John's "justification" for spending that much on the roof is that it will "last for 300 years"...

Instead of steadily working to grow his assets and wealth like a normal - brained person would, he inherited - and has mostly blown - an inheritance from his father...

He's informed us several times that he has not had enough money to buy food - he apparently does not even stock basic pantry items for his "lean times"...

At the age of 61 he can look forward to his "Golden Years" as being years of privation and homelessness...he'll lose the house, that's a pretty sure bet...

He needs to be watching Suze Orman instead of those ancient PBS nature docs...or ask you for some sensible "frugal living" tips...

John paid what, $2600 for a used Leaf? He's spent $8000 to repair it in
the last year, that we know of.

Exactly. And it does nothing to help the environment. John doesn't
really care anyway, for him its all about feeling superior to other
people. Deep down John knows he is a loser, this is a way he tries to
compensate for that.

Stop deflecting. I've owned my car (bought new) since early 2003.
Aside from gasoline, in that time I've spent money only on routine
maintenance, new tires. I had a minor issue with the clutch a few years
ago; it was only in the shop 2 days and my insurance company paid for
the tow. I had a friend drive me over to pick it up when it was ready
and the bill was only about $300. One time someone hit my parked car in
a parking lot. I filed a claim with my insurance company; they had me
download an unwittnessed accident report form from the Sheriff's Dept.
website and email them a copy and they cut my deductible in half. So, I
paid $250 to have the body damage repaired and they paid for a rental
car while the work was being done.

Meanwhile, you keep hitting stuff (or you say someone did a hit & run)
and you're paying mega bucks out of pocket. Or you don't keep it
charged (what's your electric bill look like?) and then have to pay to
have it towed to a place that can recharge it from zero.

Let us not forget you still have that ancient "fartburner" van. A
gasoline powered vehicle suits you just fine every time you wreck your
precious Leaf. Hypocrite.

I went to the zoo today. Going in, I saw two Tesla Model S at the free charging stations. Going out, there were two Leafs being charged. The Teslas were backed in because their charging ports are in the driver's side taillight. The Leafs pulled straight in because their ports are in the middle of the front. Now that was an interesting day!
Lunch was a mahimahi plate from Rainbow's Drive-in. It was okay, I guess. The mac salad was pretty good. The only thing that's needed for a good mac salad is a good amount of MSG.

God's got nothing to do with it. There's a bunch of shredded cabbage under the fish as it is customary for serving under fried foods. You could probably eat that stuff but I ain't that desperate.

I would eat the cabbage and leave all but a few forkfuls of the starches.

Yeah, God knows what vegetables would do to the human body.

I like coleslaw but not cabbage under fried foods like tonkatsu or chicken katsu. That stuff is icky and soaked with oil. Sometimes you can't avoid it and I'll accidentally eat a little.
I'm going to yakiniku restaurant tonight. There's probably not going to be any salad there either. I suppose they'll be some kim chee. I'll eat a little salted cabbage in Japanese restaurants i.e., tsukemono. Tsukemono is some pretty sublime stuff because I only eat it a couple of times a year. Eating a salad on the side would mostly be for Western style dining.
We got a couple of containers of salad greens but I've never had any. That's for the pet turtles and the hamsters, not for us.

You don't like cabbage?! I must agree with the others, that would be my
favorite part.

I would eat it, but it would not be my favourite part. My wife likes
cabbage and cooks it often. Sometimes I have some and sometimes I don't.
She usually cooks a little extra in case I want some.

I like cabbage as much as next guy. In this case, the cabbage is used to absorb oil in fried foods so the hot pieces are laid directly on top of the cabbage. That's just the way things are done on this rock. If the cabbage is served on the side I eat it, if it's on the bottom I won't.
I don't eat that much cabbage but I will make a Korean cabbage pancake occasionally. That's good eats! I had a spicy cabbage salad last night at the yakiniku restaurant last night. It was pretty awesome. I think the dressing was crispy chili oil with a little sugar, salt, soy sauce, and MSG. It was a simple little thing but intriguing.

I had to double check, but I think I see an attempt at shredded cabbage.

Yeah. I missed that little bit of pale green amid the sea of white carbs.
