Default OT continuing computer saga (don't read if you're bored)

My son was here last evening, he looked at my NEW computer and said
something is not right with this computer, he then checked it all out and
said it's a refurbished computer, WHAT? I said it's listed as new. He said
maybe some new components, hard drive etc., so they could say that, but the
computer itself is older, that's why you have those PS2 connections,
including a hard to use DVD player.

He told me to send it back, so he went to the seller got a return slip,
cleaned my information off the computer, boxed it up and it's going back
today. He then went to Best Buy site and picked what he thought would be a
good one for me and his dad, after discussing the details, I told him I
would take his word for it, so it will be delivered tomorrow, also quite a
bit cheaper than the new (I thought) but actually refurbished computer.

I will say this, the sellers were completely good with taking it back when
told that it was ordered by mistake thinking it was completely new, will
only deduct $8.00 from the credit card. I won't name the sellers because not
wanting to take anything away from them, but it was a refurbished Dell,
which explains a lot about the old fashioned hookups etc.

Yes, I am a true dummy when it comes to some things, but at least with all
the good info I got here, I am able to hook these suckers up by myself now!
LOL

Â* It truly sucks that they left the impression it was a new unit . I'm
glad your son was able to step in and help you get it all sorted out and
help you get an appropriate unit . Will he be helping you get it set up
with software for what you'll be doing with it ? Our youngest pushed me
into building my first comp - he started something . Now the only ones
that aren't custom builds are the laptops . And mine ain't "stock" ,
though hers is .

Yes, he told me to go ahead and hook it up, keyboard, monitor and mouse and
then he will come and see what I need, which isn't much.

I've been using the same Antec full-tower case for about 16 years.
It's seen at least 10 hard drives (has 4 in it now including one
solid state drive), 3 motherboards, 4 video cards, 2 power supplies,
and at least 5 different CD/DVD drives (now it has none, screw those
things).

ObFood: Steak and shrimp chow fun later today.

Oh wow!

I guess I am lucky. My bro and my nephew (his son) are both programmers and
there is a top notch computer shop near here. The owner and his daughter
used to be connected to the dance studio. Good people. I trust them!
