Deflection noted.

Your subordinate clause needs a comma.

Perhaps. "Forte" is the French word for "strong".

It's the female form of the French adjective 'fort', which means
strong. I don't really see how that became a noun in English. I blame
Italian.

Well, thanks for that. I listened to the podcast and it explains it
well. Others should give a listen if they want clarification.

Yes, that was interesting! And like the announcer said no matter how you
pronounce it, someone will take offense of your pronunciation. (Sheldon,
this is where you come in screaming at us about how uneducated we are.)
Personally, I'll stick with MY pronunciation as fortay. Long A.

I bet he speaks it with that slight pause represented by a comma. He
should clarify with his wife that teaches.

Are you serious? I no longer believe that you do a lot of yeading.
At the level you've demonstrated you read (Little Golden Books) it
would take you a year to read a copy of National Inquirer and maybe
comprehend half. I'm serious.

Just thought to let yoose know that people who read at about the 2nd
grade level are not yet capable of reading/comprehending more than one
word at a time so are incapable of reading ahead... more skillful
readers (4th grade) would have noted the word "are" before clamping
down their undeveloped brains. I'm sure when reading to yourselves
yoose two mouth the words also Both of you possess the reading
ability of someone reading music on their first piano lesson.

It's astonishing to me he doesn't understand the simple use of a comma
in a sentence. But hey, you and I are both uneducated stutterers...

Yes, and as someone said...when admitting you're wrong, everything before
the BUT in the admission is bullshit.

It doesn't matter how you to try to turn the tables and make people
appear as unintelligent when they catch your mistakes. It all falls
back on you and your lack of use of commas. The rant above could use
a bit of punctuation as well.

You should have said he should clarify with his wife "who" teaches.

I've always been a great speller with a decent vocabulary, but I am not
great with punctuation (especially commas) at all.

Spelling and generally punctuation has always been my strong points.
Spell check and grammar check are two handy features to have on the
laptop.

But math, oh my, let's not go there. I thought I had died and gone
to heaven when Texas Instruments introduced the handheld, reasonably
priced, calculators back in the '70's.

Those people were so damn stupid they don't even know what they grew.
It's barley, not wheat.

I'm wondering how far he got in school before he joined the Navy. I
make grammatical mistakes, sure. But the use of a comma in discussing
pancakes (lamb pancakes!) is not one of them.

He claims he's married, and even posted a picture of mexican lady, but
who knows?

Someone said he had claimed to be single for over 10 years before he
said he was married for (30 years?).

I don't find it astonishing. That is too close to being surprising.
Having read his posts for many years now I am never surprised at his
errors or his attempted defense of them.

My wife rarely takes an English class, English is not her native
tongue, her native tongue is Spanish and various Mayan dialects... and
she also teaches Latin because all the way through High School she
attended the Cathelic school in Belize and they held classes in Latin.
However she is excellent in math, algebra, and trig, but she sucks at
geometry, my favorite. Mostly she teaches the math classes and the
computer science classes. She takes the regular Latin teacher's
classes when he's away, actually she speaks Latin better than him.
None of the other teachers, regular and substitutes, can teach Latin.
If not for my wife I'd not be at rfc, she's who convinced me and
taught me to use a computer.
