As Don is on pain killers, I'm pretty secure on what to feed him that
doesn't cause constipation (slow muscle movement not working as well
causes that as a side effect of many pain killers).

I would however like other ideas to expand my ideas for him, ones that
maybe you know that have not occured to me?

For now, he's having 1/2c red grapes to match the ham bits he wanted.
He's hungry at last having not eaten all day so matching that with an
egg salad sandwich. Weak infusion of iced tea with very minimal sugar.

Tomorrow it's butter beans and a modicum of pulled pork (bulk but
nothing slow to pass the intestinal tract since the pork will be a low
amount) and some cabbage cole slaw. Soup the rest of the time.

If the painkillers agree with dairies: Yogurt with fruit juice aka
Lassi (not grapefruit, that doesn't go well with many medications),
mashed potatoes made with milk on the runny side and some brown butter,
fluffy omelettes containing milk (grated carrots optional),
rice gruel with an egg mixed in and with cubed radish kimchi (helps against
nausea), miyeok guk, fish,...

Bye, Sanne.

You have the situation well in hand. I bow to you, master of the movement of bowels.

What he really needs is a supper dupper blow job and a double dose of
Metamucil.

Prunes or their juice.

Thanks Sanne, no lactose issues here but he doen't like yogurt very
much. No grapefruit (one of his medications, I forget which) but he's
got lots of tangerines.

Rice gruel is a definate so thanks for the reminder! It's made a
little different here from where you are (congee, Juk are close enough
to get a feel for it) but close enough to be similar. Main difference
is ours is made with dashi (fish and seaweed broth). Good idea and
I'll setup the rice maker with it ready to go in the morning. I'll make
up the dashi for him and measure the rice to a side bowl then a
container of the goodies (frozen oyster meats, peeled shrimp, bits of
cabbage, mushroom bits, a little white from a leek, small cuts of
carrot for color). Basically add a raw egg to the steaming bowl at
serving and wait for a minute or so then dig in.

So today he's been munching out on the butterbeans (one of his
favorites), had a little sashimi (tuna, properly commercially frozen),
a small portion of ham hock and some brussells sprouts. He's allowed 4
TB BBQ pulled pork a day. I'm such a meanie!

The nurse called and approved highly of the diet. I'll loosen it up a
bit once his gizzards start pooping normally.

Tomorrow night (if I get off in time, yes, have to go back to work), I
have a particular 'odd but he likes it' pizza in mind. No cheese is
needed (or desired). It's a seafood one with a white-sauce base and
lots of savory hints plus chopped crunchy bits of daikon. I have just
the right amount of leftover kimchee (mild) flavored sprouts for it.
Goatfish will be the main meat component.

LOL, it's a temporary thing due to medications used. It's no fun to be
constipated at any time, but after belly surgery, must be even more
miserable.

Lol! I'm German and live in Munich! ;-D

I highly recommend maangchi.com again. That's her main soup base.

Exactly! I think it will disappear pretty fast...

Gomtang may be good, too: Radish soup with beef and lots of garlic.
Samgyetang (chicken filled with rice, garlic, jujubes and ginseng, boiled) -
you may use ginger instead of ginseng and add onions.

Bye, Sanne.

THank you Julie but that was way too basic for this call. He's not
needing a lazitive, but something to prevent need of one.
