Roast chicken, stuffing, gravy. I ate the carrots, celery and onion from the bottom of the roasting pan. Today I'll turn the carcases (I roasted two; it didn't seem worth doing just one) into stock. Leftovers aplenty for my husband's lunch. Cindy Hamilton |

For us, it was a day to make up BBQ pulled pork which today is loaded in containers ready to defrost as the week goes along. We also made up a ham (frozen now to portions), a bunch of hard boiled eggs, and made sure I have lots of rice on hand. Don is going in for a triple hernia operation tomorrow (one right, 2 on left). We made lots of extras deliberately as they will be easy fix stuff. Today, I make potato salad, coleslaw, and a crockpot of butter beans with some of the ham. Also bread but that's normal for Sunday here. Oh, and peel and cut 5 mangos. |

A friend/neighbor had a hernia operation a couple of years ago and he could barely move off the couch for a week. It's a good idea to plan ahead food-wise. Jill |

I would be tempted to say, "I'd do that." but evidently all that talk is off limits here. Wouldn't want to upset Wayne especially. He called for castrating me. Stupid baby POS!@ I wonder what David would say about that. Anyway.....your dinner looked very nice...all 3 parts of it. I've actually never eaten cod but someday... |

If you've eaten the fish sandwiches at fast food joints you've eaten cod, even frozen fish sticks and the like are cod. Fresh cod was readily available on Lung Guyland and cod steaks on the grill was one of my favorites, I'd also grind cod to make heavenly fishcakes... a deep sea cod could easily weigh over 100 pounds. One thing I miss living inland is fresh caught cold water seafood. Frozen seafood in no way resembles fresh caught... and warm water seafood is a waste of time/effort, may as well dine on Mrs. Pauls... Gulf shrimp is bait/chum... as is warm water lobster/Florida clawless la gusta. Most everywhere away from the northeast serves frozen lobster tails (not real lobster), hardly good for cat food, doesn't compare to cold water live Maine lobster. A great Lung Guyland resto treat is Scrod, fresh caught baby cod, typically catch of the day. |

The Alaska Ocean is the largest catcher/processor ship in the U.S. fleet with a capacity to catch and process 300 tons of Alaskan Pollock each day. The Alaska Ocean yearly catch accounts for nearly 40% of commercial caught fish in the U.S. |

All the many times I went to LJS, I never tried their "fish planks," I always got the 'chicken planks' which were to die for. |

I hunted around a bit but didnt see that yet. There's some stuff about seal populations exploding around Nova Scotia that might be related there though? |

Beside pollock, I've also often seen "hake" as a replacement. But maybe not in Australia. |
