I went to Albertsons today to buy some sugar free gelatin. Didn't have to
be the Jell-O brand but that was the only kind they had. Also only two flavors, both red ones. And the only size was the 8 serving box for a whopping $2.87! Now I don't normally even buy this stuff. But I do remember paying something like 10 cents a box. Likely for the smaller box and likely when I was a young adult. Not sure if they even made the sugar free kind before that. I also remember usually buying some other brand which was cheaper. This was likely Royal or a store brand. The only other brand of flavored gelatin that they had was the Kool-Aid. And it wasn't sugar free. I wound up buying 4 made up cups of lemon lime for I think $2.67. I have since looked online. I can get a dozen boxes of the 4 serving Royal brand from Walmart for approx. $4.63. For some odd reason, different flavors are different prices. And they will give you a discount if you buy various combinations. Like 12 cherry and 12 orange. No price was listed for a single box because they don't ship them that way. So what's going on with the Jell-O? They seemed to have plenty of the sugary stuff. Lots of flavors. Is the sugar free falling out of favor? And why so expensive? I do seem to remember having trouble finding any lemon which was the only allowed flavor (due to color) to be eaten prior to a medical procedure. I think I found some at Winco but I know I didn't pay that much for it. I will go out and look at some other stores. I don't need a dozen boxes. So is it just my Albertson's store? Or is something up with the Jell-O? |

I buy the large packages of sugar free Jell-O at Walmart, price is about $1 per... no price on line as it's an in store product. You can buy Jell-O at Amazon, it's an add-on item: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...ee%2Caps%2C199 Perhaps some stores only stock the sugar free Jell-O flavors that sell well as it does spoil/harden after about two years, I've had it happen and it's difficult to dissolve... had to use a pot on the stove with low heat to keep the water hot long enough, and a lot of stirring... I suggest not stocking up... the use by date on my packages give about 18 months. I suppose in a high humidity area it will harden sooner, probably should be in a foil pouch but it's just in plain paper. |

I think they are about where the USA was back in 50s-60s, as far as manufacturing goes. The quality is steadily improving as the Chinese get the range/drift of it all. We, in the USA, have moved on to either offshoring or jes plain cheapening our products. Whatever the bean counters want and the market will bear. Stuff that costs thousands of bucks. I don't purposefully buy Asian, it's just that the European and American companies I buy from get their product from there. I remember when the Chinese/commies visited the place I was working back in 1979. Back then, we could certainly make fun of those awkward guys in their brown JC Penny's suits. Those days are long gone and the foo is on the other schoot. I guess we're the clowns now. |

the hand tools that have the lifetime guarantee. And I have capitalized on that guarantee once with a pair of garden loppers. N. |

I bought it at Winco. 8 servings of their brand for 78 cents. 4 servings of Jell-O brand, I think $1.27. I bought the small lemon Jell-O as there was none of their brand. I bought their brand for the other flavors. Didn't want that large of a box but it was cheap! |

I like to make Jell-O with seltza (all the tiny bubbles make it look nice), those sugar-free flavored seltzas work well for Jell-O... the lemon and lime flavored seltzas work especially well with all flavors of sugar-free Jell-O. Not that I'm a big Jello eater, but I seem to remember when it was harder to find the regular sugar varieties. nancy |

When I do, I'll go a week or so cooking that way. Then I'm over it and won't for another year or two. During that week though...homemade fries, onion rings, sweet potatoes, chicken.... anything that comes to mind. |
