Jell-O prices

I went to Albertsons today to buy some sugar free gelatin. Didn't have to
be the Jell-O brand but that was the only kind they had. Also only two
flavors, both red ones. And the only size was the 8 serving box for a
whopping $2.87! Now I don't normally even buy this stuff. But I do
remember paying something like 10 cents a box. Likely for the smaller box
and likely when I was a young adult. Not sure if they even made the sugar
free kind before that.

I also remember usually buying some other brand which was cheaper. This was
likely Royal or a store brand. The only other brand of flavored gelatin
that they had was the Kool-Aid. And it wasn't sugar free.

I wound up buying 4 made up cups of lemon lime for I think $2.67.

I have since looked online. I can get a dozen boxes of the 4 serving Royal
brand from Walmart for approx. $4.63. For some odd reason, different
flavors are different prices. And they will give you a discount if you buy
various combinations. Like 12 cherry and 12 orange. No price was listed
for a single box because they don't ship them that way.

So what's going on with the Jell-O? They seemed to have plenty of the
sugary stuff. Lots of flavors. Is the sugar free falling out of favor?
And why so expensive? I do seem to remember having trouble finding any
lemon which was the only allowed flavor (due to color) to be eaten prior to
a medical procedure. I think I found some at Winco but I know I didn't pay
that much for it.

I will go out and look at some other stores. I don't need a dozen boxes.

So is it just my Albertson's store? Or is something up with the Jell-O?

10 a box was back in the days when Campbell's Soup was 10 a can,
before you were born.

I buy the large packages of sugar free Jell-O at Walmart, price is
about $1 per... no price on line as it's an in store product.
You can buy Jell-O at Amazon, it's an add-on item:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...ee%2Caps%2C199
Perhaps some stores only stock the sugar free Jell-O flavors that sell
well as it does spoil/harden after about two years, I've had it happen
and it's difficult to dissolve... had to use a pot on the stove with
low heat to keep the water hot long enough, and a lot of stirring... I
suggest not stocking up... the use by date on my packages give about
18 months. I suppose in a high humidity area it will harden sooner,
probably should be in a foil pouch but it's just in plain paper.

Yes, China is still peaking. I think they are about where the USA was
back in 50s-60s, as far as manufacturing goes. The quality is steadily
improving as the Chinese get the range/drift of it all. We, in the
USA, have moved on to either offshoring or jes plain cheapening our
products. Whatever the bean counters want and the market will bear.

My last gf would not even let my buy her USA union-made clothing. Sed
it was inferior to offshore stitched clothing.

Infomercials ....the new economy. ;)

NOT superior! Cheap Chinese JUNK!! Just had the cheap plastic squeeze handle break OFF my cheap Chinese made Craftsman electric mower! Hee hee, because the "dead man's switch" failed after just several uses last year, and I had identified the cheap plastic Chinese made JUNK mower as being the first point of failure on it, and I was correct! So I wired around it and switch the mower by plugging it in/ unplugging it!

And I got a good thick material union Made In USA Bernie Sancers tee shirt from BernieSanders.com and recently got an "Athiests For Bernie" tee shirt via ETSY and sourced at E.C.O. Village in Arizona and I noticed right away it was a much thinner material shirt than my other Bernie shirt and I looked at the tag in the shirt: Made in Haiti! And EVIDENTLY cleaper and less substantial. I have a Kitchenaid A9 Coffee Mill made in the 1940's made in Troy Ohio and it's still working! I seriously doubt anything made in China's gonna still be working in 65 years!!

Your problem is you're buying cheap Chinese stuff. I buy the expensive
Chinese stuff. Stuff that costs thousands of bucks. I don't purposefully
buy Asian, it's just that the European and American companies I buy from
get their product from there.

I remember when the Chinese/commies visited the place I was working back
in 1979. Back then, we could certainly make fun of those awkward guys in
their brown JC Penny's suits. Those days are long gone and the foo is on
the other schoot. I guess we're the clowns now.

I don't. I guess I didn't word that correctly. To buy from them, you have
to buy multiples. Which is why I will not go that route.

Yeah, I "capitalized" in Craftsman's lifetime guarantee on a 19mm box wrench after I broke open the box on a well used and beat on with a hammer trying to get a rusted on lug bolt off an old aircooled VW Beetle once! I has an oxyacetylene welding torch at the time, and tried welding it back on, but it failed immediately when I tried to use it, so I took the beat on, welded on broken wrench up to Sears tool department, laid it on the counter and told the salesman I needed a new one! Without pause he told me to go get a new one and he'd start the paperwork!!

And I don't agree with you that old Craftsman power tools are junk, I have several which have always performend excellently for years!

Fiskars (guaranteed for life) makes far better gardening tools,
expecially loppers, Sears are about the worst.

Fiskars does indeed make good quality long lasting garden equipment. I
lucked out a few years ago when I reluctantly loaned my tree pruner to
my wife's friend, knowing that she would likely not bring it back. Sure
enough, I had to ask her about it the next season. Seems it was left
outside in the the rain and snow and rusted and seized up. She replaced
it with a Fiskar, which was much better, and it is still going strong. I
then bought a set of Fiskar lopping shears. Holy cow. Those things will
go through anything. I have had them for more than ten years, which is
a lot longer than the previous pair lasted, and I use them a lot.

My Chinese landlord bought it for the house, in exchange I commited to keeping the lawn mowed. Personally. Like I just did yesterday, then cleaned up a LOT outside today. Easier to do what I did today than last year after I had just moved in!! This place has not been very well maintained, as it's primarily been rented ny young college age "kids". We live an easy walking distance to University of Missouri Saint Louis. Great rental income property, but needs a lot of work. It's my returement plan! I'm gonna BUY IT BACK FROM CHINA!!

What if the CHINESE won't sell it to you? They might be buying up
cheap and nasty US houses to accommodate the CHINESE sleeper cells.

I try to distract some of their natives on Usenet, thereby slowing
down their consumption of Chinese made goods. That surely is enough?

They are butt-hurt over not being to annex some Carribean islands:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/...ticle19045062/

From my seat on the plane, the waters of the Atlantic Ocean are a dark,
steely blue the colour of a frozen Canadian winter. But then we bank
toward Turks and Caicos, and the water changes to a shining turquoise so
clear and bright it almost seems fake.

Things somehow become even more strange and dazzling when I get to the
beach, perhaps because, after our record-setting winter, I forgot what
sun this hot feels like. Yes, I think, nodding my head and sipping a rum
punch, lets annex this place.

Grace Bay Beach on Providenciales consistently ranks high in lists of
all the best beaches in the world. (Dave McGinn/The Globe and Mail)
Canadians have been having that same thought for close to 100 years.

The idea made headlines again last month when Rufus Ewing, the Premier
of the British territory in the West Indies, visited Parliament Hill to
discuss trade issues and stopped by Toronto to open a tourism office.
Conservative MP Peter Goldring, who proposed annexation back in 2003,
again pitched the idea of an 11th province. But as Ewing put it:
Theres no marriage without some kind of relationship.

---

A lobby ambassador and I get to talking in a stairwell, which lends
the conversation a conspiratorial feel. She has five grandchildren, she
says, and she leaves it up to them and their generation to decide
whether they want to become part of Canada. How does she feel about us?

I heard theyre cheap, she said. They dont like to spend money. (Go
shopping in Provo, see the high cost of things and its easy to
understand why that might be the case.)

On behalf of all Canadians, Im feeling a little rejected.

Of course, no one said courtship was easy. And some islanders are
waiting for us at the door, flowers and chocolates in hand, hoping well
love them back.

On my way to the airport to fly to Grand Turk, I get in a cab with a
small Canadian flag hanging from the rear-view mirror. I ask the driver
about how hed feel to be part of Canada.

That would be sweet! he says. Fort McMurray would be the ideal place
for me to go make some money.

But, he adds, a lot of people here, they just go with the flow.

As I tip my hat back and look out at the water, I think we should
probably just do likewise.
