As I replied to JK, the problem arose when I changed providers. I never

There's so much buried configuration crap in any newsreader or faux newsreader program like Tnunderbird that you probably have to go deep into it's configuration to find what's not set correctly with/to your new provider. All it takes is one little mis-configuration to screw things up for you.

Well that suggests a possible configuration problem and not a provider
problem. Who was your old provider and who is the new one?

Wait a minute... Are you trying to use aioe by any chance?

I use Thunderbird and have not had that problem. I have a worse one with
Windows Live Mail. If someone sends me an email and uses the same
subject header it shows up in the inbox highlighted as if it is new mail
but it is the old one, and I cannot delete it. It happens only on my
deck top. It works fine on my laptop. When using the desk top and I see
it happening I switch to my browser and go to OutLook.

Make sure under server settings you have selected 'Authentication is
required'. Oh, and it helps if you know your password.

It seems like Jill had every problem known to man before she finally
tamed Thunderbird. It's obviously not idiot proof, so I'm never going
to try it out. I want easy personal configuration, not something I
need a software engineering degree in order to get it working at my
comfort level.

It's only a news reader that you connect to a news server. Y'all seem
to think it's voodoo that may or may not work based on all kinds of
superstition.

I use Thunderbird for email. I don't want to risk confusing email and

On this computer I am using an early version of WLM. I've used it for so
many years it is hard to get used to anything else. I have tried a couple
of others but I didn't like them. My other computer has a more updated
version but it doesn't show chevrons and doesn't sort the posts in date
order within a subject. Well it does but I have to read from the bottom up
which is a pain. Is there anything that is similar to this version of WLM
that I could use because this isn't going to last forever

Don't you just hate it when you have something that works so well for you,
and then it's gone. Big sigh. LOL

I hate changing too. Nothing beats what you're used to. I'd stay with
Agent for that reason, except my version can't killfile name thieves
without also killfiling the real people. But that has calmed down
again.

Some people who are not bad enough for my kf but are annoying, get marked as

I have the same problem to an extent. I can't remove the spam SW
without pulling the real person. I can domain ban but that's not
fixing it for his situation.

Like I said, try Xananews. Pretty easy on the setups. Has advanced
features if you want to configure further too.

Many thanks for all the advice! I went back to scratch and re-configured
it and I'm sure ticking all the same boxes.

After working for IBM for 7 years, I am firmly convinced there are "ghosts in the machine", maybe demons even!! Kinda flys in the face of that old saw about "insanity being doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results"!

"Why do you even bother posting if that's all you have to say? We've
heard the same thing at least 2,000 times by now."

-sw

"Incredible. And you STILL don't shut up."

-sw

I thought you were here just to talk about cooking? You've only said
that at least 25 times, yet 95% of the flack you get is about
off-topic subjects.

-sw

Way to go, Julie! You beat her down into speechlessness.

-sw

I didn't think Julie was even capable of using the phone.

-sw

You seem to have a problem remembering things. Maybe you should have
written down the once you realized you liked it.

-sw

Wow. She catches on quick when her mind isn't clouded by irrational
spite.

-sw

Congratulations! Your post has been approved by Julie.

[High Five]

-sw

Yeah, I see tuna and cheddar on pizza every time I visit Planet Bove.

-sw

You can't rent this stuff at Red Box.

-sw

You tell him Julie!

<snort>

-sw

That wasn't your original argument. Your argument was that you
couldn't remember where you got them. Then when somebody tells you
how to solve that problem, you come up with a different argument to
explain why the proposed solution won't work.

Same 'ol song and dance.

<snip rest unread>

-sw

So WTF are you basing your unfounded theories on? Angela was about 3
years old and you had left grade school decades earlier. What would
have been your direct experience with the New York public school
system in the early 2000's?

-sw

What I'm trying to say is that Julie is full of shit again. It's
amazing how much time Julie spends describing her miserable fantasy
world.

-sw

Again, only in YOUR house.
