Default Costco has chili now!

At the snack bar, I mean. Not sure when they added it to the menu but it
has pinto beans. I prefer kidney. I guess the pinto are cheaper. I didn't
try it today but I might at some point. Anyone else tried it?

I will look again next time I am there. I only glanced at the sign and saw
pinto. I still don't like them in chili, even when mixed with kidney.
Unless perhaps it is the three bean chili but that's a different beast.

Oh ick. I can get a can of chili at Dollar Tree for a dollar. It's a tad
watery but it tastes fine.

I did not realize the price! That's bad. Doesn't look like it comes with
cheese or onions either but I think there are onions on the condiment bar.

You criminally STALK and ABUSE women, you sick little dwarfy man!

Here's what you did when you went all over the Usenet impersonating the
well-liked regular named "sf" and posting all her personal data on the
net against her will, including her:

* home address
* age
* cell phone number
* husband's name

etc.

YOU did that, you evil *******!

And then you had the hubris to actually GLOAT about in public saying:

She should call the cops. I've already publicly admitted it is me so
a conviction should be a piece of cake and then forging would stop.
So what's stopping her? I think she suffers from Bovism - she just
loves the attention and drama and screw the rest of the group.

And before that you literally stalked poor Omelet, a local Auustin
favorite, right off the Usenet!

In your worst moment ever you actually begged her to KILL you:

Why are you replying to your abuser yet again?

Are you a masochist?

Get some psychological counseling, soon.

It's unhealthy to feed a man who stalks and abuses you publicly.

Thanks, I have not tried it but I will. I hav3 found that Costco has really good food that is made in house. I love the chicken salad, tho I know they had a problem with it, and their shrimp salad is excellent I often buy the prepared casseroles, like chicken Alfredo and like it all. Will get some the next time I am there>

Sounds like a good idea. As far as I know it's not served here. It's probably because chili is served with rice in Hawaii and Costco would have to implement a system of handling cooked rice. That might take some doing at a corporate level. OTOH, serving rice opens a whole new slew of menu items possible. They could serve chili with hot dogs and rice or rice and roasted chicken. Of course, this would disrupt that well-oiled, limited menu, food service system they already have in place.

I find the most amazing things at grocery stores. I mean there is like
food, stuff to drink, baked goods. It's amazing what you find in a grocery
store.

While some of the grocery stores here do sell hot and ready to eat food, not
all do and most do not have hot chili. Or a snack bar.

I must be in the minority. I don't go looking for snack bars when I'm
shopping, be it at a grocery store or Costco (if there was one around).
My rule of thumb: eat something before you go shopping.

Ditto. However, I do know that my local supermarket, which pales
in comparison to the likes of Publix, has a salad bar and a couple
of 'soup of the day' offerings. I imagine that, at least during the
winter, you can find chili there. That kind of thing is the norm
where I live.

I did once buy a container of chili at Whole Foods, you could
serve yourself a couple of different sizes, I think. Just wanted
to try it and I was hungry. It wasn't bad, but I make better and
it's really an expensive way to eat.

I agree! I visited Costco before xmas and the noise, bustle and crowds
around the exit, where the snack bar is, were hardly conducive to
enjoying anything. The exit at Home Depot has a snack bar as well.
Furthermore, whatever the time I go to a shopping mall, the food courts
are always busy. Makes one wonder if anyone cooks at home these days.

Some of the Wegman's stores have a regular lunch counter as well as a
self serve. People nearby go to them just for lunch. They get very
crowded at times.

I'm pretty sure there's a salad bar at Publix. Likely they have soup,
too. I've never actually looked for it. I do know I've never seen any
sort of seating area. That's what I think of when I think of a "snack
bar". Gotta have at least a couple of tables & a couple of chairs, right?

Maybe it's just me but I've never seen people walking around in a store
eating food from a snack bar. (Keep in mind there is no Costco nearby
and the Demo Dollies at Publix or Food Lion are never offering more than
a bite.)

$4 for a cup of chili is pretty darned expensive. Likely it came out of
a can. If she can make better chili at home sans pinto beans that's
what she should do. It's her choice.

Me, I try not to go shopping when I'm hungry. It doesn't always work
out that way but I don't go looking for a snack bar. I just finish my
shopping and go home and have a bite to eat. YMMV

I'm not familiar with Wegman's since I don't live in your area. I have
no doubt what you say is true. But that's a lunch counter with seating,
right? (I remember a Woolworth's lunch counter when I worked retail in
a Mall in the 1970's.)

I don't think that's what Julie is talking about. She's talking about
the same place (or was that Target?!) where she used to buy nachos with
Cheese Whiz-like sauce on tortilla chips. Then she complained because
it didn't agree with her digestive system. I remember this because it
sounded like the cheap "nachos" I saw on a menu at the snack bar at the
drive-in movies in the 1970's. I didn't buy them then, either.

Yes, I know, she merely asked has anyone tried it the chili. No, I have
not. I wouldn't, because I don't look for lunch at a grocery store. I
buy ingredients for cooking there.

Safeway stores up here have a Starbucks in store.

The most expensive chili I've seen is at the local ski lodge, $4.99
for an 8 ounce styrofoam cup, straight from a can.

I have most certainly seen people walking around grocery stores carrying
cups of coffee, though usually from Hortons or McDonalds. The grocery
store in town recently expanded and renovated and now has a snack bar.

Shopping when hungry can lead to a much larger grocery bill.

Count me with you (except I would rather not eat before grocery
shopping, because I won't even buy everything written on my list)...
and I'll never understand the stop and eat at the mall food court
mentality either. Trader Joe's always has coffee samples and
demonstrates some product, but I don't bother with samples unless I'm
completely interested in what they're showing. I ended up buying all
the components to a yummy salad they were demonstrating... which meant
I spent $10 on a tiny bottle of balsamic vinegar (recreating that
salad was totally worth the cost).

Which means your gut bacteria isn't working properly. You should do
something about that.

The snack bar at Costco, is located so that when people are finished checking out, they can stop and get a snack. Most everyone sitting there has a cart Our Home Depot does not have a snack bar but I would guess it is similar.

There's a Hallmark card shop in the new Publix. That doesn't mean I
will be buying a bunch of greeting cards when I'm shopping for food.

Nobody walks around eating here either. They sit in the cafe area to
eat a meal sized portion or stand by the sample bar if that's what it
is.
