I was headed to Winco today but wound up at Walmart instead. My stupid GPS
rerouted me through the parking lot at the Everett Mall and tried to make me get onto the freeway which is what I was trying to avoid. I knew that I was within 3 miles of Winco but just gave up and figured it was a sign so went to Walmart instead. Was able to get all but one thing on my list and I found some new to me things too. One of which was raw peas. Out of the pod and in a bag. I did not buy them for these reasons. There were so few peas in that bag, I could have easily eaten them all by myself in one meal. And the price was $4.89. Plus the facts that they are not in season and they were out of the pod. How fresh could they really be? I do love fresh peas though and can rarely find them for sale. I can find Sugar Snap or Snow but not the Garden type. Has anyone seen or tried these? I don't remember the brand. |

I have always liked them. Fresh, frozen, snow peas, snap peas, pea soup... I like them all. I haven't had canned peas in years but used to enjoy them. My brother had the same parents I did and grew up in the same house. He likes other green vegetables, but he hates peas. |

Nowadays produce is flash frozen in the field, the factory arrives by trailor, goes field to field during harvesting season. |

You pay a bundle for a small basket of peas that are mostly pod. It takes 10-15 minutes to shuck a basket of peas and you get only two small portions and a huge pile of compost material. But what a tasty treat they are. |

You don't know if you are going to get 10 in a pod or three, or if they will be big or small. > >> They are >> always expensive. You pay a bundle for a small basket of peas that are >> mostly pod. Yes, it is. There are some spring vegetables that I look forward to and really enjoy and near the top of the list are peas, asparagus and fiddleheads. |

If it's a street that I don't know, a quick glance at a map will suffice. Sounds strange that Julie was using a GPS to go to a somewhat local Winco. She's lived there long enough to find her way to local stores without help. |

Julie has a very long history here of asking for information and then rejecting helpful suggestions. Now it appears that the same compulsion to reject suggestions applies to electronics. |

My filter is full of trolls and the idiots who feed them and the super twits who defend them. I will not be insulted by someone stupid enough to take her seriously. |

I was mostly a lurker then and didn't start posting right away. Twice, I let the asses here run me off of this group. Many of those who did, no longer seem to be here. |

No. I don't like fiddling with the settings of the GPS. There are times when I need to take the freeway. And as I said before, I already knew how to get there via another route. I just found it odd that it was taking me down another couple of streets, only to find out after I did it, it was trying to force me to turn around and get on the freeway. I know that my oldest GPS would do this. The one after that would say "re-calculating" and allow me to take a different route and route it for me. This one up until now has said nothing. It just re-routes. I do not know this city at all except how to get to Winco, Target and a few other stores. There and back home. Down one street where a friend lives. I only found some of these stores quite by accident when I took a wrong turn dropping her off. And I was like... OMG! These are actually not that far away! I had gone to the mall prior but the GPS routed me down the freeway and that took me a few miles out of my way. The way I learned this area was to drive a few blocks in every direction and back to see what was there. Each time, I would venture out a bit further. Once I figured that out, I tried making a few turns and was able to find a few more things. But since I am in the suburbs, most of what is around me is just other houses and I have no need to go there. I am not one that remembers street names. I tend to remember things like the place with the horses or the purple house. I gather that this is more common for females and that most males do not do this. At least that seems to be the case from what I have seen/heard. |

The last two times I used it was to find places with addresses in rather large business parks. -- sf |

I had to see a new Dr. in Everett and I don't know that area well at all. Yes it is nearby but in general I have no reason to go there. Now that they have opened the new Winco in Lynnwood I have been shopping there. I know that city much better as it is very close to where I grew up. And it has a much lower crime rate than Everett. So... I was going from a Drs. office to Winco. I do know how to get from the Everett Mall which I managed to get to, to Winco but the route I take makes me double back. Since the GPS was showing me a different route, I assumed there was some shortcut that I didn't know about. To take the freeway would have been silly as it would have taken me some out of the way as well. Problem is, the way the streets are set up here is silly. Many are winding, perhaps because it is so hilly. They're not always the grid work type pattern. Many dead ends. And only a few streets go through. For instance, there is an ER quite near here. But to get to it, you have to drive several miles in the opposite direction and double back. No other way to get to it as no streets go through but that one. One year, my parents were supposed to come here for Christmas lunch but they didn't arrive until almost dinner time. My dad got frustrated with the traffic and thought that by now they would have made some changes to the streets and something would now go through. Nope. He wound up getting lost in the maze of roads in the same exact area that I did many years ago, leaving a birthday party. They just wind around and around and eventually you'll realize that you are going in circles. Nothing goes through and it's all residential. Maps won't help you there either unless you somehow get your hands on a really updated one. Why? They are ripping down entire streets, building new ones and putting up so many housing developments that nothing will add up. I once took my daughter to a friend's house to drop something off. I had only been there once and I wasn't driving so didn't pay attention. I used the GPS to get there and that was fine. But then it told me to continue down the other end of the street. I couldn't as there was a cement barrier there. Apparently at some point that street had gone through. Now it doesn't. At least the ghost houses seem to all be gone now. When we first moved here, there were houses in two areas that were totally landlocked. Not just single houses but what appeared to have been entire streets of them. But the streets were no longer there. One bunch appeared to have been built in the 1960's. One of those had clearly had a fire. None of them even had driveways and there was no way to get to them. And sure enough when I looked it up, a man claimed the area to be haunted. I used to have to take this route to get to Angela's school and I always felt creeped out in driving down it. But now, I no longer do. Read abut it he http://www.ghostvillage.com/ghostcom...howtopic=26711 The other area had houses far enough back from the street that I couldn't see them too well, except to see that there was no way to get to them. |

It can take heavy traffic into consideration if that's how you set it. -- sf |

The GPS reads Julie's mind and programs her to go to WalMart where she can get things cheaper. These modern conveniences are great. ==== |

Could not figure out why it was trying to take me a weird way to get to Bellevue and had we taken that route we would have missed the performance. Luckily I had printed off the Mapquest route as well. We had more time going home and I hate the freeway so I just trusted that it would get me to my friend's house and it did. Normally if I know at least part of the route, I will just keep going that way and it won't make me go back to the freeway. But it's all good as I got what I needed at Walmart and found a few new items. I just have been avoiding that area due to the high crime rate but they had tons of extra security there and I had no problemd. > > I try to look at a map to see where I'm going as the navigation often > picks a route that I'd rather not take. Husband gets mad at me because he loves maps. Can't understand why I don't. |
