Twice yesterday and so far twice today the wind has blown out the pilot light of my water heater. Royal PITA to not have hot water, and relighting is a chore because I have to crawl over and under a bunch of crap to get to the water heater. And something has gone wrong with the new POS General Electric water heater, so the piezoelectric starter doesn't work anymore. Fortunately, I have a spark coil (of the type used for "violet ray" wands) which can strike an arc to the wire going to the pilot light and relight it. Not fun but it works. (And it's not the piezoelectric element itself which has gone bad, before you suggest replacing it. It's the electrodes in the pilot light flame. They probably need to be cleaned or moved closer together. It's easier to use the spark coil.) |
