Default Dinner tonight 10-19-14

We had a tasty dinner tonight. Grilled top sirloin (teriyaki
marinade), parsley buttered wide noodles, steamed asparagus and
home-grown tomato. The colors were so pretty on the plate as I served
myself that I decided to grab my camera. Camera in right hand, plate
in left hand, using overhead light. Pooh! That yellow overhead light
makes the asparagus look overcooked and the steak look overdone. Focus
is bad. What a disappointment.

Sounds very nice to me, asparagus tomato and steak - yum. Nice
combination there. I had hoped to do similar the other day, but the
frost wrecked my asparagus spears :/

I started my dinner this morning - half a leg of lamb, slow cooked in
a Dutch oven on the fire with potato, carrots, onion, celery, garlic,
stock and fresh bay leaf, rosemary and thyme. Wish I had some peas to
add... oh well.

That sounds really good. I don't think I would add the peas. Bay,
rosemary and thyme are fairly powerful for the sweet taste of peas.
Sounds like you will have tasty leftovers.

Other than a little fuzzy, it looks fine to me. The steak is perfect

I had an avocado stuffed with canned albacore tuna with a glop of adobo mayo
on top. It was very tasty, but not terribly hard to make. LOL, yours looks
much better.

Thanks I got the plates at the dollar store for about 30 cents a
piece. I mixed and matched colors and then added the striped plates
that had all the colors. I have soup bowls, sandwich plates and
coffee mugs as well. I like color :O) They make me smile when I open
the cupboard in the morning.

That sounds good too. Is adobo mayo just what it sounds like or is
there more to it?

Reading that, it sounds like something I would agree with. Peas with
rosemary, thyme and bay? Nope, sounds bad... In practice though I've
never really noticed anything undesirable with that combination and I
do cook this way quite often.

Thanks Janet, and yes I will have leftovers. I love cooking this sort
of thing in the morning, as I'm often tired by the end of the day and
often don't feel like cooking... plus I just love slow cooked lamb and
veggies anyway

That sounds very interesting indeed Cheri. How did you ever come up
with that combination? I'd have never have thought of combining tuna
with avocado.

Thank you. Not kielbasa and sauerkraut? I think of wieners and
beans, kielbasa and sauerkraut.

Good for you, and a bargain too. I think they have some really pretty
designs/colors on plates etc. I buy them for special occasions and just for
everyday too.

It's just some extra heavy mayo (that somebody in the group told me about)
with adobo seasoning added. I was not in the mood to cook today, so dh had
leftover chicken, rice, and mixed vegetables. We were watching football so
it was fast.

Sarcasm? I was actually serious... lately the avocados available here
have been the worst I've ever come across (no oil content and they go
bad as soon as they ripen), but when we next get some good ones, I'd
like to try your recipe/idea.

I had leftover soup, a Fuji apple and peanut butter. Husband and daughter
had "clean out the freezer". Pierogies, kielbasa and corn for her along
with a Fuji apple. No more apples. Should have bought more. And yes, she
cut up her own apple. I winged it and bit into it. Luckily no peel in the
teeth. Husband can have the last few pierogies, also some butternut squash
ravioli with red sauce and the last of the kielbasa. I also took out some
meatloaf to defrost.

Now I just feel smarmy. He and I both did kielbasa.

OMG! We saw the biggest avocados at Winco the other day. $1 each. They
were almost as big as footballs! I have a recipe that I got years ago from
a Mexican cookbook for pickles stuffed with tuna. I haven't tried it but
I'm sure it would be good.

I had a friend who used to fill an avocado half with Worcestershire sauce.
She would put the pointier end in her mouth and sip the liquid out then eat
the avocado. I'll pass!

But... You live in CA. You all eat avocado with everything. Right? At
least that's what it implies on our menus here. Slap the name "California"
or "California style" on something and serve it with avocado.

I eat a lot of avocados in various ways. They are fairly reasonable here,
really good and good for you, filling, and ta-da...low carb. They're very
versatile so that's probably a lot of it, plus plentiful. I really like Thai
Peanut Sauce drizzled over them, but don't know about the worcestershire
sauce sipped from it.

of course it needs onion! That's a given. People eat pizza without
onion???

That's what outsiders do to make whatever combination they dreamed up
sound fancy.

Those huge ones are probably from Florida. They are watery and
tasteless. People buy them and then claim they don't like avocados.

We did have avocados at the green grocer from somewhere like Peru a
couple of months ago. They looked kind of like Hass, but they
weren't. They were a good two times bigger than the largest Hass in
the store and half the price. They weren't quite as delicious as a
California Hass, but at the price they were selling for - I didn't
care. Mash them up, add salt & lime, scoop and eat.

Is adobo seasoning aka: sazon?

Sheldon likes to call it tube steak because that is also slang for penis.
He also likes the obscure Yiddish word, fercocktah, because it has cock in
it. Sheldon likes penises and large breasts. His ideal sex partner is a
he-she with both of the above aspects.

The one I have is a mixture of garlic, salt, turmeric, black pepper and
cumin. I like it, and use it on a lot of things.

Thanks. I plan to make both - but I'll probably use the Sazon more
because my new favorite rub has both coriander and cumin in it.
There's something about the combination of coriander and cumin that's
absolutely wonderful.

I used to use equal parts of salt, pepper and garlic - but I decided
it's easier to use them individually because I'd find myself adding
more of one or the other anyway.

I'd really like to see a picture of avocados that are nearly the size of
footballs. Things like that just don't turn up at my local grocery store.

Yes, that sounds good too.

For the record, I never once even considered sleeping with you. And
you know that. You're the one who somehow got the idea that I was
going to move in with you - and you posted that to RFC just out of the
total blue.

After having met you twice at casual austin.food gatherings 2 or 3
years ago and not giving you any indication that there was any sort of
romantic interest in the least, you somehow twisted that into MY
MOVING IN WITH YOU?

That was just way too Psycho for me. I sat there at stared at the
screen for at least 15 minutes wondering, WTF? That was just way too
spooky. I've met weird, semi-psycho women before but you win, hands
down. Mapi of austin.general still holds the male title, but at least
he announced his psychosis right there lying on the floor of the bar
at B.D. Reilly's rather than romantically obsessing over me for 2
years.

Needless to say, you need to come to terms with what happened and why
your mind works that way and stop making up excuses for your fixation
and disappointment before we become the next Yoli and Michael. I'd
prefer you use a sniper rifle on me from a few hundred yards away.
There you go - a reason for you to buy yet another gun and ammo.

And Jeremy, I was just tired of your decade of bullshit and visions of
grandeur about all these things you're "working on" or have not done
in the past. Even posting a call for meetings with imaginary people
about imaginary projects of yours at "the normal time and place", as
if you are somebody important with a life. I'm pretty sure you're
manic depressive mixed with habitual liar.

Sorry I don't fit either of your Ideal Psycho Pal Profiles.
