I was Tommy Joseph's best friend. About a week ago he developed horrible pains in his stomach along with vomiting and fever. I took him to the hospital in a wheelchair, about two miles away. I stole the wheelchair from a local hospital to use as a novelty in my apartment and was thinking of getting rid of it until this need arose. I took Tommy to the hospital where he died 2 days later. I am now living in his apartment and using his computer to send this post. Doctors say it was food poisoning. The symptoms appeared within one day of him first eating his sun-dried tomato stew. I didn't eat any because I didn't trust the sell date. I told him to throw them out. Instead he insisted on consulting people in this group whose consensus was to go ahead and use them. Now he is dead. Thanks a lot, people. Nice computer though. Love his tv, way bigger than the one I had in my rathole apartment where I was behind 4 months in rent and was due to get kicked out any day. Everything worked out fine. HE WILL BE MISSED. TJ |

But there times in my younger years when I'm sure I'd have accepted a used toothbrush from the right person. I've worn shoes found on the street. I once passed a full box of cast iron pans all rusted out. I wasn't out looking for anything, it just popped into view. I took them home and cleaned them up and put them to use. My motto is this: The moment something has been bought it's used - so even the stuff you buy new is used in no time flat. As for used clothing - if the right thing comes along I have always preferred used clothes to new, especially if they are in good shape. The point of my comments was that in my life there were always certain items I did not have to buy as those items were handed down to me and lasted a long time. But now, with many benefactors in their graves with me forced to shop for things I've never had to buy, each trip to the store for such items is a stressful experience that drives me up a wall. Food, no problem, I know how to shop for that. But things I have never had to buy - yes, I am lost when the need to shop for those things arises. I have also eaten in soup kitchens in L.A. and Allentown Pa. They are not all the same and sometimes the meals were fantastic. "But how could that be?", some might say, "I always thought good food cost a lot of money." === I preferred used clothing for my daughter when she was younger. Particularly the ones sold at the military commissary. And she was really fond of those. Reason? Those would sometimes shrink after washing and then not fit. But used? They already shrank. Much easier to check for size. And many kids grow so fast that you are replacing their wardrobe about every 6 months. |

Sorry Ed, you're a little late for the cash, but I left the computer and t.v. for you. Oh yeah, and there's a nice stew in the frige for you if you get hungry while you are packing up the computer. koko -- Food is our common ground, a universal experience James Beard |

He also told me where the cash is hidden so please leave a couple of shopping bags by the door too. I'm sorry too, Ed - I already sold TJ's tv and computer (the buyer is coming from them first thing in the morning) - and I also found his money. He was not as good at hiding things as he often boasted. I tried the old "Hide it in the most obvious place" method. It didn't work. I will be using his money to put down first and last month's rent on an apartment I found yesterday and will be moved out of this rathole by the time you arrive. I am letting you know this to save the trouble of coming here for nothing. The only thing of TJ's you will find in this apartment are remnants of the thousands of farts he cut within this tiny space over the years, the stench and aura glued to the walls and flourishing in the porous woodwork where entire universes spawned by his man clouds now thrive until the disinfectant boys come in to clean it up for the next person. TJ PS.......... My computer is crashing a lot and each accessed post takes forever to receive and to send, so I will say now to all who responded that I read your messages in full and apprecitte them - thanks. |

Often not such a bargain... when previously laundered several times there's not much life left in those fibers... and when washed in hot water with bleach all you have are schmatahs. Heavier fabrics like used for winter coats and warm blankets can be fine but most used clothing of the type you're talking about, items that shrink when laundered, are best purchased new and do your own shinking. Brand new clothing is dirty clothing, should always be laundered before wearing. One of the best ways for women to get yeast infections is to wear new panties right out of the package... womem and men, always launder new undies before wearing, any clothing worn directly on your skin, shirts, jeans, PJs especially. Bath towels and bedding should be laundered twice before using, most are milled in third world countries, they are filthy with feces... and they're loaded with sizing so won't be absorbant... never sleep on brand new bedding, you'll make your Dermatologist very happy. That new comforter set is disgustingly filthy, besides germs it contains chemicals that are carcigenic. |

Funny how this thread started with sun dried tomatoes and now ends up with sun dried farts as the clean-up guys open the windows and let the sun pour into the once-bleak setting, blazing into the unseen fart stains from floor to ceiling that are not only remnants of Tommy Joseph's life but of his very soul itself. Thanks again. TJ |
