Myxo was also used here, but of course they developed resistance to it and hence was replaced with the calici virus. Now the rabbits are developing a resistance to it here in Aus, but not the case here in Tasmania, from what I can tell. Not yet, anyway. The past couple of years hasn't been the best for hunting rabbits - they're still here, but you don't see any large groups of them any more. I'm hoping their numbers increase again to what they were, because I've yet to see what I would consider significant environmental damage locally. On mainland Australia - a very different story, however. |

LOL, oh no! I wasn't suggesting that at all. It's just that their personalities are quite similar really (IMO) which is probably why they clash so much. Here, you don't see large groups of rabbits. I use a .22LR and a .177 high powered air rifle for rabbits. A .22 magnum doesnt make much sense here where I am for rabbits - total overkill, plus a bullet costs approx. $1 each. But I do use a ..22 magnum for Roo and Wallaby - the ideal calibre for the job. |

I bought 15 'bricks' of .22 ammo a few years, luckily, when it was much cheaper. Ever get the feeling the ammo companies are taking advantage of gun user's paranoia? |

We have hares here, although you only come across them by chance and *never* when you have a rifle. I've been wanting to try hare for years now. IMO a .22 should suffice, although a .22 magnum wouldn't be overkill either. Speaking of hares, I couldnt resist buying this as a large print on photo rag paper this afternoon. No reputable gun shop has had a brick for sale for at least 2 yrs, hereabouts. The local pawn shops snag 'em and charge $70 for a brick that Walmart sells for $24. Problem is, WW get about 4-6 bricks per month and they're gone in minutes. Even good gun shops can't get LR rimfire ammo. I've still gotta single brick I bought yrs ago, but have been unable to find .22 rimfire ammo for sale for at least 5 yrs!, here in the CO Rockies. nb |
