Methinks Carol spent too much time living in Sasebo.

A JAP would most likely be proud of the status.

I made a 9 lb shoulder recently (twice as much as I'd ever cooked
before) knowing I would be with my kids and their families for a few
days and wanted planned leftovers. Made two meals with them for the
entire group and still had enough to make two more meals for hubby and
me.

Maybe JAP's wear it proudly (what spoiled little rich girl wouldn't)
but JAP is a derogatory term as far as I'm concerned.

It's not a complementary term. I don't see it as terribly derogatory,
either. It's just a joke. We should all lighten up.

I didn't notice because I was still trying to play catch-up after being
away for a couple of days last week. The majority of what I hadn't read
were things posted by her.

There ya go, and it's pretty normal for a person to answer posts to/about
them.

Between here 60 plus posts per day and a couple other people who reply
to almost everyone of those, I expect that there will be a lot less
traffic for a while.

Mayhaps she's busy cooking. Julie never said the burger patties and
bacon in her freezer were cooked... she merely said that's the only
meat in her freezer... she did not specify which state they were in...
although I see nothing wrong with cooking those prior to freezing, if
anything cooking before freezing significantly extends shelf life,
especially bacon and ground meat.

And there are plenty of precooked frozen meats in the market, Swanson
is but one... peruse the freezer case... costs a lot less to DIY.
Lots to choose from:
http://www.swansonmeals.ca/dinners/default.asp
Gives some good ideas to copy for my freezer:
http://www.swansonmeals.ca/SkilletMe...let_fortwo.asp

I cook lots of meat for my freezer, especially in stews/soups. When I
buy those family packs of pork chops, ribs, sausages, beef roasts,
etc, I cook them prior to freezing, takes much less freezer space and
takes little time to prepare when one is short of time... right now I
have at least ten quarts of tomato sauce for pasta in my freezer, some
with saw-seege, some with pork chops. When I do pot roast I usually
cook two, one is sliced and frozen in portions. When I make meat loaf
or meata balles, or chili, and other ground meat dishes I always make
plenty for freezing. The spare ribs served at Chinese restaurants are
typically precooked and frozen, then each day some are defrosted to be
reheated as needed... ribs reheat well in the microwave or broiler...
if you ordered spare ribs and they needed to be cooked from scratch
you wouldn't get served for some three hours. I see whole racks of
fully cooked cryoed ribs at the market, says right on the package they
can be frozen.

It wouldn't surprise me that Julie is a good cook, just that with how
poorly/inaccurately she often expresses herself and goes off on
verbose tangents she comes across as a ditz. I consider every regular
poster here as valuable to the existence of this group and to its
varied character... if everyone someone didn't like were removed
there'd be no one left. There are only a very few here who are truly
evil, they're easy to ignore, and some jumped ship to facebook, the
traitors only visit when facebook gets slow.

That's because you're jealous, your ass is too fat to qualify you to
be a JAP. JAPs are svelt, spend lots of time primping, preening, and
many hours at spas... sf is too frumpy, dumpy, and fat assed to be a

Yes, she did. She wrote "I always keep some cooked meat in the freezer
although I think now all I have are hamburger patties and bacon."

I do cook and freeze bacon because I cook at least a pound of it at a
time. I have never cooked hamburger patties and frozen them to be used
later. (I'm surprised you aren't yelling about "mystery meat".)

Leftovers are a different matter. I package leftovers into homemade
freezer dinners. I certainly don't cook up a bunch of hamburgers and
freeze them for later use. Julie is the only person I know who does
that. It doesn't take that long to cook a burger or two.

I tried to filter her but I was pretty well guaranteed to see her posts
echoed in the quoted text of replies but several people, a couple of
whom seem incapable of resisting the urge to reply to almost every post
in the group. So... might as well have some fun with it.

If I have to be honest <gulp>, we have sliced, smoked pork butt in the
freezer, smoked brisket, BBQ ribs, tamales, and I cook 2-3 lbs of bacon
at a time. We are also known to cook 3 lbs of meatballs at a time and we
keep those in the freezer. This comes handy when you want home cooked
meals and you find yourself too busy to cook.

Monday is our busiest day of the week, and we are having tamales for
dinner, with refried beans and Spanish rice, each one of those came out
of the freezer, including the red sauce for the tamales. I cook beans 2
lbs at a time and I put them in the freezer in 4-cup portions.

Following up on the original subject, I bought some Mt Ranier cherries
today and they were very good. It seems to be cherry time.

I am not sure which bit of that I am supposed to have written.

Sorry, it was rather confusing wasn't it! I just wanted to say that it
is cherry time here around Washington, DC, which was more or less the
original subject.

The only thing I precook is hamburger meat or turkey meat. I like to cook up
3 or 4 pounds at a time, season it with a lot of mexican seasonings, run it
in the Cuisinart until it's about the texture of Taco Bell meat, and freeze
it. I use it for a lot of things like taco salad, stuffed cucumbers, stuffed
zucchini, omelets etc. by just taking out what I need from the bag. I have
stored a lot of leftovers in the freezer, so I really don't see the
difference in cooking it up first or freezing leftovers either.

Angela and I both love canned green beans. I also like fresh ones but she
doesn't. She won't eat hamburger patties. I eat them. Not that I want to
eat them but I have to get my protein somewhere. Precooked or cooked by me,
doesn't matter to my taste buds because I don't really like either of them.
I don't dislike them either. Those are rather a neutral food to me and
something that I have to eat.

Tonight, she and my husband had a choice of leftover steak or chicken, two
kinds of potatoes or rice, all cooked by me. And coleslaw made by me. I
had hominy casserole, made by me. I didn't offer it to them as I know they
dislike it.

We have all kinds of food in the house. I don't buy a lot of meat for
several reasons. It's expensive. I don't like most of it for various
reasons. Angela doesn't want to eat meat every day and husband shouldn't be
eating it every day. I do have some in my freezer now. A small ham steak,
small amounts of cooked ground beef (cooked by me), both plain and taco
seasoned. The cooked patties. And enough chicken (cooked by me) for one
person. And some cooked bacon. In my fridge I have some cooked beef and
chicken for tacos which we will have tomorrow. Also some Hormel Roast Beef
because we all like it. Yes, I know how to cook a roast. I only buy the
Hormel when I can get a good deal on it because it makes for a super quick
meal. I serve it with pasta. I also have some salami and turkey breast.

One drawer of my fridge is always loaded with fresh veggies which we all
like to eat raw. I always have hummus. I don't make it. Sure I know it is
easy to make. But so is peanut butter. And bread. And all sorts of
things. I like some brands that I can buy pre-made and it isn't expensive
so I buy it. I do keep some fresh fruit most of the time. I can't say all
the time as husband goes on fruit binges and sometimes when I think I have
enough for a week, he has eaten it all in a day or two.

I always have all sorts of pasta, rice and dried beans. Assorted canned
fruits and veg. A few other canned things. We don't eat a lot of those.
Like chili, soup and one can of Spam or something of that ilk. Husband
loves it. Canned or pouched tuna and chicken. Nuts. Tortillas. Bread and
rolls. Sometimes hard taco shells. Not always.

We also have some chips, pretzels and of course popcorn. I pan pop but we
also have some microwave stuff.

I'm sure I have left out some things. I'm not going to take the time to
rattle off every food item in this house for you. But nobody would ever
starve in this house!

This is beyond ridiculous. Sure I do that sometimes. I don't always do
that but sometimes I have to. We have three people in this house with
various schedules. Husband's is particularly bad now in terms of meals as
he is only here at odd times to eat. I am not going to prepare a meal for
him at 3:47 a.m. I highly doubt anyone here would do that. I sure as heck
will not do that from scratch. However, I will cook the food ahead of time
and put it in the fridge. And if I am still up when he gets in and if I'm
not busy and feeling like being nice, I will heat it up for him. Otherwise,
he can help himself.

Sunday was Angela's birthday. She wanted steak, which I cooked for her at
dinner time. I also made some pan fried potatoes only because she couldn't
decide what sides she wanted and I got tired of waiting for her to figure it
out. She also had the last of the coleslaw.

On Monday, I made another batch of slaw. There were still enough fried
potatoes left but husband had eaten part of the leftover steak. And he
couldn't decide which sides he wanted. So... He got the last two baked
potatoes (they were quite small) some leftover chicken and leftover steak
and some freshly made slaw. Angela had steak, fried potatoes and slaw.
What's the big deal there? Husband didn't eat the potatoes but they were
getting old enough to where had he not eaten them I would have thrown them
out anyway. I made them with butter so I couldn't eat them myself. Later,
I made some baked cinnamon chips to use up the rest of a bag of tortillas.
I didn't check the date before I bought them and they were dated the 28th.
I know, I know, people here say dates are meaningless. Whatever. I happen
to like fresh tortillas and I bought new ones for the tacos that we will
have later.

I couldn't access Eternal September. I could write a novel as to my various
problems. I did post here of it. Won't go into that again but I finally
got an email from them with my password which oddly enough was the old
password that wouldn't work for two days. So, dunno. But I am back now!

Yes, they are cooked. I like them that way. Just pull them out and nuke.
I buy them at Costco. They're good and they're cheap. I have actually
cooked my own burger patties from scratch and froze them but now that Costco
has the Quick N'Eat, I buy those. Actually when I was stuck down on the
couch, I ordered some brand from Safeway that I swore I'd never buy because
they had something I don't normally eat in them. I think maybe I was high
fructose corn syrup but not sure. They actually tasted better than the
Quick N'Eat. But that was a desparation purchase. When you are limited to
buying online, you have to take what you can find. Worse still when you
can't stand up or even sit on a barstool to cook anything.

I do routinely cook up my own ground beef, either plain or seasoned for
tacos. I also try to keep cooked chicken in the freezer although these
days, Angela is preferring steak to chicken. I did freeze that when I got
some at Albertsons, buy one get two free but... The meat was crap and I
wound up tossing it. Normally I would not freeze steak, cooked or uncooked.
I will freeze leftover pot roast if I ever have any. But I rarely do. When
I cook roast, I have to do 5-6 pounds at a time because it is so well liked.
If I want to freeze some, I have to pull it out right away and tuck it in
the freezer. Othewise if I wait till the next day, there might not be any
left for me to freeze. I do like to use roast once in a while for soup.

Yes. I very rarely buy those sorts of things. Husband likes the On Cor
foods perhaps because he grew up eating them. And they are cheap! Winco is
the only place around here that sells those. I will buy them once in a
while for him but really not often. And if I happen to get a good coupon
for one of those meat and pasta type things, I might buy it but nobody
really likes those so it's just as well that I don't. In general, we don't
like frozen foods. There are a few exceptions like the burger patties,
White Castles, some kinds of taquitos, street tacos and a few Amy's meals.
But really we eat so little of this stuff that I only ever walk up and down
the freezer cases looking at stuff perhaps 3-4 times a year or if I am super
bored and just in the store to kill time.

I forgot! I do have a few meatloaves in my freezer. Not even enough for
all of us to eat them. Should thaw them soon. That is one thing that when
I do make (perhaps once or twice a year) I will make a ton of and freeze. I
really do prefer to cook most meats before freezing. That way if I am sick
or not here, they can always pull something out and reheat it and it's a
heck of a lot better for them than some TV dinner type thing. Not that they
would eat those to begin with. They won't.

I am a very good cook! I've been cooking since I was a little kid. My mom
hated to cook and it rather showed. She was more than happy to turn the
cooking over to me.

My dinner tonight was a casserole of hominy, pinto beans, green bell pepper,
jalapenos, chiles, white onion, Rotel with lime and cilantro, tomato sauce,
bacon and a little chili powder. I would have put black eyed peas in there
but I was out and I forgot to buy them at the store. I think their firmer
texture would have worked better than the pintos but it was still very good.
I have enough of it for several more meals so I am set for the week. For me
anyway. The others won't eat it.

Yes. I buy the Hormel cooked bacon from Costco and the Quick N'Eat patties
from Costco. I have tried the raw patties and even tried making my own raw
but I don't like cooking frozen from raw. I don't even really like
hamburger patties and I am pretty much the only one who eats them. It just
so happens that I digest ground beef well so it is a staple for me despite
it not being a favorite food. Once in a while I make a burger for my
husband but not often.

No, it doesn't take long. But it only takes 2 minutes in the microwave to
cook a frozen patty. And if I were to cook a burger patty from raw, I'd be
left with at least 3 more which I wouldn't be able to eat and those would
just wind up in the freezer anyway. So... What's the big deal?

I bought some too. Likely never again. Wish I had tried a sample. They
were pretty flavorless. Not sweet. Not sour. We had a cherry tree when I
was growing up. I always assumed they were Rainer but apparently not. They
looked like that but they were so sour that the birds wouldn't even eat
them.

Then one day, my uncle was visiting and said he would take care of the huge
tent of tent moths that was in the tree. Long story short, he caught the
tree on fire and it never produced again.

I won't eat ground turkey but I do the same as you, except that it isn't all
taco seasoned. I do leave some plain because I like to add it to spaghetti
sauce, soup or casseroles. Although in the large scheme of things it isn't
saving much time, but... When preparing a meal, it does save time when I
can just pull it out and nuke it.

I also make upside down taco salads. I use large serving bowls, put the
meat in the bottom and nuke till warm, then add the veggies.

My news server was wonky for a couple of days last week but not
completely out. I could download messages, but it was hit & miss when
it came to sending.

It's perfect for home fries at breakfast. Cut

When I bake (sorry, shifted from boiling) russet potatoes I'll bake at
least four of them. I'm not talking about the huge ones sold as "baking
potatoes". They're medium size potatoes. They're easy to re-purpose
into home fries, mashed potatoes, or cube them and make baked potato
soup.

Mine did that, too. It would tell me the message was too short and
refuse to send it. I'd copy the response and close the pane then open
it again, paste and send it off. I did email Astraweb about it. It
seems to be fine now.
