Thanks everyone for all your helpful posts. We stopped at Home Depot
today and I looked at the Samsung fridges. Then I looked at a Whirlpool. I liked the Whirlpool much better. Had a chat with the saleslady, who was very knowledgeable and had many certificates of merit by her desk, plus one for quite a few years of working in that department at Home Depot. I told her that my on line research had taken me to Samsung and Whirlpool as the ones in my price range that had good reviews. I asked her opinion and she favored the Whirlpool. She said that parts are more easily available and service is better. I did see negative comments about Samsung's service on line. We bought a beautiful Whirlpool with lots of storage space and an ice maker in the freezer. No more in the door junk to break itself or my knee caps! Just to make sure nothing breaks for 5 years we got a service contract as well. It will be the best money I ever wasted as it will avert the evil eye. HD will deliver and set up the new one on May 1. I put the old one on Craig's List for a good price, but if it doesn't sell by May 1, we'll let HD take it away for free. I feel we paid a very fair price for the Whirlpool. There was a manufacturers discount and then another discount from HD on top of that. Can't wait for the Whirlpool to come. -- Janet Wilder Way-the-heck-south Texas Spelling doesn't count. I've found if you place like items on the belt in small groupings then they will more likely pack to your liking, and naturally it helps if you say "Don't over pack the bags". Most of my reusable shopping bags are the insulated type, and those have zippers, so I tell the bagger to be sure to zip them closed. |

I feel the same way about the reusable bags - they always pack them heavy. I think those people need more training on how to pack grocery bags. On the other hand, if they use the plastic ones, they'll put one or two items in them and you end up with a ton of bags. That works for me since I use them for scooping kitty litter into. Those heavy bags are very hard on my back and awkward to lift out of the cart and into my vehicle. -- ღ.¸¸.œ«*¨`*œ¶ Cheryl |

That works for me since I use them for scooping kitty > litter into. Those heavy bags are very hard on my back and awkward to > lift out of the cart and into my vehicle. I imagine that part of the problem is that everyone wants their bags packed a different way. I want as few bags as possible, and when I brought my own reusable bags, I wanted them full. If I had a bad back, I wouldn't want that, and how are they to know unless I'm using a cane/whatever. I was fine with bagging my own groceries, I'd prefer it. The store has changed the checkout lanes around so that the cashier puts the stuff into bags themselves. They seem to do a pretty good job, though I'd use fewer bags if I was doing it. I put the empty bags into a mini step trash can I use for cat litter. Any overflow, I try to recycle. nancy |

I've found if you place like items on the belt in small groupings then they will more likely pack to your liking, and naturally it helps if you say "Don't over pack the bags". Most of my reusable shopping bags are the insulated type, and those have zippers, so I tell the bagger to be sure to zip them closed. ~~~~~~~~ I guess I'm lucky. I shop at Kroger, and they do a very good job of separating items both by category and weight (not too heavy). Then, I re-use all the plastic bags as liners for my trash can (a medium size waste basket kept under the sink) and (most important!!!) for scooping my cats' litter boxes. I do check carefully before using them for litter because the bags will often have holes in the bottom. Those get used as waste basket liners. MaryL |

I use the grocery plastic bags to throw out the ferret poopy papers each morning, plus small trashcan liners, plus just to carry things around again from van to house or house to van. Each one has at least a 2nd life. |

I always put 2-3 plastic bags together for scooping cat litter, if one has a hole I'll still use it along with two good ones for extra strength... I don't need the bag to burst. I also buy those plastic bags by the case at BJs, I don't get enough used ones. |

I have put that into a grocery gag for easy carrying. It never leaks, otherwise, I just add it to the kitchen bag when I'm putting it outside. Greg |

Of course, it should be the last thing on the list as that's also a good way to go about kicking the actual bucket. nancy |

Maybe I missed it, but did you get a side by side, or freezer above or below?
