Default Father's Day dinner to honor my late dad

4 years ago my dad passed away on Father's Day. Esophageal cancer. My
best memory is that at least we all got to see him that day, but it was
a real shock when he died later that night.

Mom and me went to the cemetery today, though she had a really hard time
being there even if it was her idea. I told her we'd go out to dinner
afterward and we went to Red Lobster. Dad always liked going there for
a cheap quick dinner out. I got the Seafood Trio which had shrimp
Alfredo and that was what Dad always got when they went. I ate it in
his memory. What a huge plate of food and I have at least one more meal
out of the leftovers.

I hope all you dads and granddads had a wonderful day!

Glad to hear you found a way to reconnect with a beloved father.
Sadly, mine is still alive and I didn't even think about calling him.

It's never too late. 'Happy Father's day for Yesterday'!

He's not "beloved" by me, but I should give him a call anyway.

Yes, you should. He'll be dead someday and you will then wish you contacted
him more often

Or. conversely, we'll all be dead someday and then we either will or
will not choose to interact again in the hereafter.

For some odd reason most folks seem to be over-invested in the here and now.

Given it's transitory to the extreme is that the most sensible policy?

My wife's sister hadn't spoken to her in 5 years. The day before my
wife died the sister left a message on my answering machine bitching
that I hadn't called her to tell her Kathy was sick.

Friggin' drama queens- It is always about them. It is a sad story,
though, that she never took the time to reach out and make amends
while my wife was still alive.

'Shit' really does happen-

Never too late but I can not imagine that sf (or anyone) wouldn't think of
contacting their father on Father's Day. WTH? There must be some issues
there.

My parents are both old...80s but I still call them every Saturday. I'll
miss that when they die.

The more I read, the more evil she portrays herself as.

Good to see you keep in touch. Not everyone has happy memories of families
so be grateful that you have

Mastery of the obvious is its own reward, some folks just take a tad
longer to get there...
