Default I saw Pioneer Woman!

Today is an off day in that we have to be somewhere earlier than usual. So
I put the TV on and there she was. I saw part of one episode and the next
one is almost over. I can now say that I have no desire to ever see her
again. Her voice and personality are very off-putting to me.

Her blog is ok. She has some good recipes. But I agree with you,
she's not very appealing on TV.

And I wondered who the hell 'Pioneer woman' may be. Not that I care in the

I have never seen her on television but I do occasionally prepare her
"Crash Hot Potatoes".

She makes it look much more difficult on her blog than it is. Wash and
boil small thin-skinned potatoes (I like to use small red new potatoes)
until fork-tender. Put them on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Smash
them with a fork or a potato masher. Brush lightly with olive oil,
minced garlic and sprinkle with dried herbs (rosemary, thyme). Place in
a 425F oven for about 20-25 minutes. They're very moist and tender
inside and nicely crispy outside.

Her blog is ok. She has some good recipes. But I agree with you,
she's not very appealing on TV.

==========

Her food looks really tasty, just not the way I eat these days, but there
are really no cooks on TV that would fall into that category without me
changing the recipes as a rule. I like her a lot, I like her husband Ladd, I
like her children, and I like her ranch. Other than that, she's not very
appealing. ;-)

The heat, the flies, the distances? AND the lack of a sizable consumer
base!

That latter gives me a greater attack of the irrits that the others don't
manage farily frequently. I see things in my US or UK mags and I've got sod
all chance of finding them here because there aren't enough potential
customers for businesses to import tham in sufficient numbers to make a
profit.

If you've never made them, give it a try at least once... they are

Well, the Pioneer Woman has lovely, well-behaved children who do
chores around the place, a handsome husband who teases with her and
obviously enjoys her company. He has also provided very, very nicely
for her and she leads an interesting life. And she cooks meals not
only for her family but for the hands as well. She writes well and
has several interesting and profitable hobbies. I fail to see the
comparison.

I just looked at that recipe this morning and it sounds good. I plan to try
them soon.

I also just watched a bit of her show and (unlike some others here) I like
her cooking....at least what I've seen. This is good old country cooking
like my one gramma did and it was to die for. Maybe not all so healthy
cooking but great for the taste buds!.

You go, Pioneer Woman!

+1, are most of the other TV cooks cooking *healthy?* I don't think so.

You know, I wondered about that, too, she is a pioneer from where? As
it turns out, Oklahoma, which does not sound like an unsettled region,
but maybe it is.

They live on a huge ranch (farm), and you see footage of the children
and ranch hands on horseback, helping her husband load up cattle, or
somesuch. She earns quite a bit on that show, so I am sure her husband
can afford every newfangled ranch gadget that he wants. It is not a bad
show, you could probably find an episode or two online if you got bored.

It's not. My dad grew up there.

Then there are the cooking shows "The Barefoot Contessa" and"The Iron
Chef"
She's neither barefoot nor a contessa and the chefs aren't made of
iron.

I'm not a big enough fan to know for sure and I'm not Googling, so
anyone who knows otherwise can correct me.... I think she calls
herself Pioneer Woman because she's a City girl who moved to the
country - so she's roughing it on a cattle ranch now.

Doesn't look to me like she's roughing anything. They have a HUGE kitchen
with all sorts of fancy stuff in it, much better furniture and much more of
it than we do. And a big screen TV.

Wow, you know all of this by seeing her once and not liking her at all? They
actually have a beautiful lodge on the ranch where she cooks for family, as
well as a beautiful kitchen with modern appliances, oh...and running water
and indoor toilets too. I know people who travel in lovely motor homes, and
they still call it "roughing it." I think you're a tad envious actually.

Who wouldn't be envious? I wouldn't call any of that roughing it. We used
to go camping in a tent. Hated it! That would be called roughing it.
Moving into military housing and not having any of your personal possessions
except for what you brought with you does border on that. Yeah, there is
electricity and running water. But no soft place to sleep. I can not say
that anyone who has a nice house and nice kitchen and a nice bed to be
roughing it at all.

And yep. I was right.

"Roughing it" and "Pioneer Woman" is totally tongue in cheek. She's
got it good out there.

For once, I totally agree with you! I *cannot stand* her. She's
almost as annoying as Ina Garten. Don't get me started about *that*
low-class fat-ass!

Doesn't matter what *you* call it or what anybody else calls it, what one
considers roughing it, is what roughing it is to that person, and she never
said she was roughing it anyway. She knows she lives mighty fine.

Someone *here* said she was roughing it. That's what I was responding to.
You are starting to sound like my mother. She told me that I didn't know
whether or not the word "alot" was really a word. I said it was not, in
reference to seeing in print a lot lately. She said it didn't matter what
the dictionary said and that there was no way I would ever know if it was a
word or not, because things change.

Some things, actually most things do have a definite meaning.

It's such a simple yet tasty recipe. While the potatoes are boiling you
can be doing other prep-work or heck, just go read for a while. They'll
keep just fine sitting in the cooking water until you're ready to place
them on the lightly oiled (OO) baking sheet and smush them to break the
skins. Gently... you're not making mashed potatoes Then sprinkle
with S&P and dried herb of choice, drizzle lightly with a little more
olive oil and pop them in the oven. My SO and I love potatoes made
using this method.
