well, not really. a slate blogger, Jennifer Reese

....decided to make an identical menu from each book: fried chicken, mashed
potatoes, biscuits, iceberg lettuce salad, and pineapple upside-down cake.
Since it's family-style food, my family would serve as judges.

Very interesting. Thanks for the relay.

A comparison I would never think to make. I once read Ree Drummond for a
while, and what she has is a friendly, breezy style of writing. She has a
schtik. She is a homecook with a splendiferous kitchen. Period. She
doesn't invent or perfect any more than any other home cook, but she does
remember to write down what she did.

Keller is inventive, often groundbreaking and understands the nature of
food. I don't suppose even Keller expects any home cook to make brioche
from scratch every time they want a salad. OTH, reared eating food
approached in the way Keller approaches it, people will grow up knowing what
things should taste like. The book from which she cooked is his take on
your daily food based on his considerable talent.

No one should look forward to eating something that tastes sort of
artificial. It's the result of generations of cooking what is "good enough"
.. On that basis I would just buy some Ho Hos.

I won't even buy cupcakes/muffins from a coffee shop.

And I don't know who Thomas is, but my vote goes for Ree anyday.
