Default Using up stuff

I rarely make dessert. But in looking through the freezer, the cabinets
and a few recipes, I made the following. I haven't cooked it yet
because it's setting up in the freezer to make clean cuts before baking.

Puff pastry squares - flat sheet would work better, but this is what I had
Nutella
Whipped cream cheese
Flaked coconut
Mixed nuts

The puff pastry was a bit old even though it's been frozen since
purchase, so it was harder to roll out into a sheet than I thought it
would be. Once rolled out, I spread on a layer of Nutella mixed with
some cream cheese (to taste)
Mixed nuts were put in FP to grind but not a fine grind and sprinkled on
Flaked coconut sprinkled on top of that
Roll up jelly roll style and put in freezer just to set
(this is where I'm at right now)

Then cut into slices and bake until puff pastry is browned (crossing
fingers for this part)

I am not a fan of nutella but will be forwarding this to a friend whose
daughter is an addict, Lee

I'd have made napoleons instead, since melting cheese or nutella wouldn't be
a concern. How did your dessert turn out? I hope the filling didn't ooze out
too much!

It's in the oven now. I took pics of the sliced jelly roll style before
cooking, and will take pics after. I think I need to take the pizza
stone out because I put it in the oven after washing it and forgot I was
going to be cooking this. Then again, its an electric oven so it might
be good to block the direct heat from the elements under the rack for this.

If it preheated with the oven, everything will be fine.

I love cooking with wine.
Sometimes I even put it in the food.

My pizza stone lives in the oven. It takes a little longer for the
oven to come to temp-- but overall it helps with evening out the temp.

And then I don't forget to put it in when I want to cook something on
it.

I had two blowouts. I haven't tasted yet because they are sizzling.

Before cooking - my baking sheets are getting stained, no biggie

Cooling - you can see the baking stone I had to put the rack on. No room.

I can't wait to taste one!

A final post about this. This is a keeper. The crust was flaky, the
filling sort of crystallized rather than runny. The contrast between
the sweetness of the Nutella and the lightly salted FP'd nuts and the
tenderness of the flaked coconut. Wow. Very rich. Now I have to find
the best way to save the leftovers so they stay the same as now for later.

Sounds lovely. (Even though it's not something I would eat, not because
it isn't probably delicious, but I dislike Nutella and coconut.)

i am good with the coconut but i would have to sub in somethign for the
nutella, but then again i would try it, what i didn't like about nutella was
the overwhelming sweetness to the exclusion of what i was eating it on,
maybe with this combo it wouldn't be that sweet, Lee

I wonder if you can sub peanut butter with a little dark chocolate for
the Nutella?

that would work better for me or perhaps some almond butter... i like my
chocolate almost bitter so that might really be nice with the coconuts, Lee

I love making haystacks with unsweetened, shredded coconut and just enough
really dark chocolate melted to hold them together.

You're right! Chopped would include something like rattlesnake liver
in the basket.

It did sort of feel like Chopped. LOL After making these normally, the
only trick ingredients I could come up with would be something like
coffee, but that would be a good mix with the nutella. Or maybe some
sort of fruit. Bananas, or some other puree on the plate. Non-sweet,
hmmm, can't think of anything.
