Default Help! Cooking cookies

In my opinion, convection ovens are terrible when it comes to baking. They're
fine for roasting but I think they bake too fast. Items such as cakes aren't
given enough time to rise before they're done. Even if you lower the
temperature as much as 50 degrees they still don't come out as good as a cake
baked in a regular oven.
About your problem, does your oven use both top and bottom heating? It sounds
like you're getting too much heat from the top and your cookies are toasting
rather than baking.

Perhaps your oven's thermostat needs recalibration... check with an oven
thermometer.

When using the Bake cycle with most electric ovens both top and bottom element
are energized during the preheating period.
