Just curious about the percentage of folks that would love or hate cats
at the Doctors or therapists offices...

Me? I'd love it.

Not sure I understand the question...

I currently have two cats at home (including one thats 15 yrs old and
has Asthma).

Do I want another one at the doctors office when getting a physical? Not
needed if that was where you were headed.

All the vets' offices seem to have cats - mostly for blood donor
purposes, but still ....

They're hardly sterile - many docs' waiting rooms have carpet - I
wouldn't want cat hair with my appointment, thanks.

Why not? So ppl who's getting bored there could start harassing the cata,
instead of harassing the other patients awaiting therein with theyr personal
bad day.

Don't know about cats but dogs work. I am very familiar (not as a
patient) with a local pain management practice. The main docs daughter
brings in her two dogs each day and some patients who need to be wheeled
in seem to really enjoy and benefit from engaging the dogs.

I'd hate it, and my husband--who is allergic to cats--would find a new
doctor.
What's the point in going to the doctor if it's going to make you
sicker?

I've never been to a Vet that had cats or any other critters running
loose and I've been to many Vet's offices, all are in back properly
secured in the kennel area.... a few have had aquariums in their
waiting room, but so does my Primary care doctor.

I wouldn't expect sterile, except in the ER.

I have seen some grundgy Vet's offices but I've seen just as grundgy
people doctor offices.... but that's why we have feet. My current
Vet's office is scrupulously clean, and no animal smells at all... I
only wish people doctors kept such a tidy facility.

Well, my kids' orthodontist had a pair of chocolate labs wandering
around the clinic.

The vet has a handful of cats and a tank full of fish. Scully finds the
fish soothing, although she is somewhat unnerved by the grey cat who
peers at her from over the counter. Zane is mesmerized by the cats.
And it is amusing to see Cooper (Mr. Tough Guy) pretending he doesn't
see them.

Aside from, perhaps, the allergist's office, I am all in favor of
animals in healthcare settings.

Bah! Humbug! It's bad enough they bring critters into the library
occasionally for show and tell. No critters in the doctor offices. Never
been to a therapist except physical so can't speak for the head doctors
offices.

Considering the pain issues I've had lately, that would not be a bad
thing... :-) I'm checking out a new therapist tomorrow morning.

1. I did not understand your question initially.
2. I do not believe cats belong in an area of a business that deals with
the public or at the very least not in the public area.
3. Thanks with your comments about X but we actually found a vet who came
to the house when it was time and we were able to hold & comfort X at her
moment or passing.

I've never seen a cat in a doctor's office,
but I always use conventional doctors, not
naturopaths, homeopaths, chiropractors, or
the like.

Lots of kitties need homes ... maybe after a while you'll want to help
another one. I lost a cat at age 18-20--two months later I adopted another
stray and she is the sweetest cat ever. (I did love my other cat very much,
but she was kind of mean and pretty dumb for a cat. Beautiful, though.)

Big problem around here - cars get out and are only seen again on a

My current vet has an office cat that has run of the waiting room. She
prefers to stay on the counter and snooze unless she sees someone pick up a
sample of the free food they always keep in a basket. She's hopeful that
someone will see just how starving she is and NEEDS that person to open the
free sample and feed it to her.

She has a birth defect. One of her front paws doesn't straighten out and is
kept curled under. She doesn't walk on it generally, but other than hopping
around on three legs, she sometimes leans on what would be to us the top
part of her "wrist" and walks a little that way. She's very cute, and
friendly, and a purrfect office cat. She's a blood donor, too.

I've seen "office" pets at a veterinary office. I have not, and would
not expect to see one in any other professional office. In the vet's
place? no problem. You'd have to share the waiting room with other
critters anyway wouldn't you?

A cat lover here but absolutely *not* in a medical setting! Same with
the 'therapy' animals used at hospitals. Admittedly some people might
benefit but fortunately none were offered to me while in hospital. Our
cats don't even get a scritch if I have a cut on my hand.

lots of cat alergies out there...don't see it working out well. Guy goes to Doctors with breathing
trouble...finds a cat there and discovers he has a alergy which enhances breathing trouble...guy
passes out, could be one example.

Personally I suspect one of the following seen in the area:
Cougars ( 3 as far as we know)
Coyotes
Foxes.

Don't know about the possums, skunk, or the raccoons.

Our larger cerebral cortex and opposable thumbs make us a pretty formidable
adversary for a cat, you know. With a minimum of effort you can keep a cat
inside. It's fine to just not want one, after all.

Our vet has a lab cat and two lab dogs that have free run of the place.
Our rat terrier is the only other dog that's allowed in the office
without a leash. They've taken care of her since she was born a little
over two years ago.

I've never had any of this stuff, and I've been up close and personal with
cats all my life. Frequently with broken skin, too, cuts from cooking,
bartending, raising roses, etc. No cooties, now fungus nothing. I am
allergic, but medicine controls it. I am also immuno suppressed from
long-term steroid use for severe asthma. I once had a doctor who told me to
get rid of my cats. My new doctor is allergic to cats and has three. I like
cats.

I dunno. Many folks are allergic to cats. Some may be afraid of
them. I am generally in favor of pets in various places like
nursing homes, but any such thing would have to be restricted at
certain areas, I think.

It doesn't make sense to have animals at a doctor's office.

Well, apart from having cat fur all over the damn place, and people with
allergies getting worse because they're there, it sounds like a good idea.

Maybe the Sphynx breed........ but they look just soooooooo damn ugly!!

Crocodiles on the floor might be a better option!! At least people that take
their damn rambunctious kids to a DR's surgery would have second thoughts on
doing so!!

:-)

If we are not meant to eat animals,
why are they made of meat?
