should you be allowed to have a semi-automatic? how long does it take to
shoot 13 people? will one of your ace citizen-markmen have time to squeeze
off a perfectly placed shot to defend himself?

or is your thesis that if everyone is armed, no one would be crazy enough
to start shooting people for no reason?

That appears to be the wierd and blinkered view that the NRA takes.

My point is that if LAW ABIDING citizens had the ability to defend
themselves, it might give the criminals some pause:

I wonder how often "law abiding citizens" turn into killers

Actually, I've always wished for a button on my dashboard that would
obliterate the stupid car and driver in front of me. No gun involved. :-)

If one obeys one of the cardinal rules of gun safety, that's not going
to happen.

Always.

I'd NEVER shoot at a shadow.

That's what ALL gun toters say... but talk ain't the same as doing.
Licenced gun toters are those who have shooting accidents... criminals have
no accidents, they shoot you on purpose.

Anyway, the argument is moot... since ALL shooting incidents were
preventable there is no such thing as a gun accident (gun accident, an
oxymoron if there ever was one)... ALL shooting is on purpose.

Unfortunately, I cannot argue with that.

It's why I did yet another gun safety lesson with my nephews last night.
Dyson (age 6) now knows how to UNLOAD both a revolver and a semi-auto.
I stress the Eddie Eagle gun lessons taught by the NRA.

I ask him, "What do you do if there is a gun". He replies "Don't touch
it". Last night I taught him "What do you do if some other kid has a
gun"? Now he knows "Unload it". I taught him how to unload my Ruger
Redhawk and my Taurus PT-92.

Remove the bullets and the gun is safe.

I knew a woman who's young son was killed when lured into a peer
pressure game of Russian Roulette. I'd rather something like that not
happen to my beloved nephews.

The best way to kid proof your guns is to gunproof your kids.

FWIW I have been the victim of a gun "accident", a careless hunter
shooting across a road. I was driving a truck and some dork of a mighty
hunter was shooting blackbirds in an orchard with a 12 gauge. It
spattered the door of the truck hard enough that the number 5 shot was
stuck in the door and some of it came in through the open window and hit
me. It smarts. It hit me on my arms, face and back. Most of it just
bounced off but I had 4 or 5 little holes in my back. It did not
penetrate, but it did puncture the skin and left huge bruises. I was
lucky.

Years later when I was working in enforcement and we had to start
wearing bullet proof vests I was very much opposed to the idea. I
figured that the chances of getting shot on the job were minimal, and
that having to wear those bulky vests and the chances of suffering from
the heat were far greater than the risk of getting shot. Some of the
newer guys thought they were a great idea. I made the mistake of asking
"Who do you know that has been shot on the job? ...... other than me."

Somebody forgot to tell Dick Cheney. I was just flabbergasted when I
read that he had shot somebody while "hunting". The former Secretary of
Defense, and he knew nothing about gun safety?

From what I could piece together from the news reports at the time,
he'd been drinking before they went hunting. We'll never know how much;
could have just been one beer at least an hour before (OK in my book) or
he might have been loaded (pardon the pun). I suspect it was somewhere
in between, which is *not* OK.

That was rather stupid of him. I totally agree with that!
Fortunately, he had the grace to feel guilty.

I'm betting he never makes that mistake again. Fortunately, his friend
will survive.

Even more flabbergasting is that the incident was not reported until
later and that Cheney was never charged.

FOX news oh Jesus -wipes tears from eyes

For a while there I thought your posts were seriously advocating the
pro gun thing .
Now that you have posted a link to fox news
Just know your have to be pulling our collective leg on your purported
pro gun stance .
If on the other hand you are serious -------- put head on arms and laughs

'the 1/2 hour news hour' is not even a good source for humor.
