Default Cook Accused of Putting Hair in a Steak

http://www.newsvine.com/_news/2008/0...air-in-a-steak

I think every restaurant should have cameras over the cooking area.

I think people would be much less likely to pull this nasty crap if
they knew they could be watched.

A good rule is you don't want to **** off people preparing your food.

It would not be the customer ****ing them off. I could care less if
management ****es them off.

What do you think should be done about people putting pubes in food?
You hear stories off people tampering with food all the time.

Didn't we just beat this subject to death yesterday or the day before?! <G>

Cameras in a restaurant kitchen probably wouldn't help because there is so
much movement and too many people moving about. As Janet pointed out in the
previous thread, how could you tell if someone was adding hair rather than
seasoning something?

In certain cases a clue would be that they pulled that ingredient out of
the front of their pants.

I missed the other thread. What is the title?

Just knowing the cameras are there would discourage some people.

Sheldon posted it yesterday: "Similar disgusting acts more than you think".

> Just knowing the cameras are there would discourage some people.

I'm not sure about the discouraging part. People still shoplift every day,
security cameras or not. In the other thread I mentioned Walgreen's drug
store even has their security cameras labelled as such. It may be
misdirection, but anyone with half a brain knows there are cameras in and
outside of even the smallest convenience store these days.

A restaurant kitchen is very busy... if you've ever been in one you'd know
what I'm talking about. No, the guy isn't going to unzip his fly and pull
out pubic hair and put it on his food. Even if he did, don't you think he'd
know enough to turn away from the camera?

And he does get a break to go to the restroom. You want cameras in there,
too? I've never worked in a restaurant where the staff had separate
restroom facilities. Then there is the whole right to privacy thing.

Yes to the point of either quitting or sabotage.

Like the cooks wouldn't know where the cameras are located... just
turn their back to the camera, pick a big ripe nose booga and flick it
into your soup du jour... who'll know in clam chowder. Why do you
think your bowl of red from Taco Bell is so good, the chick in the
kitchen infused the chili with her used tampon. How do you think
kitchen help amuses themselves, those are some long boring shifts.

I don't know, how do they generally get caught on video in the first
place.

Like the whatever second rule caught on tape

The when you fire them they cannot sabotage food, at least not there.

Lots of businesses have very hidden cameras. If they don't then the
'repair man' can fix that if there are issues.

Remember the woman that got caught putting a syringe in a coke can

I don't but,

How abrasive does one need to be to (logically) **** off a cook to
have them do this?

I think paying the check with a baseball bat would be what some may
consider a solution to having their food tampered with

There is no way to catch a cook tampering with food with a camera if
that's what a cook is bent on doing. That said it's pretty rare that
a cook will purposely mess with the food because they are far more
worried about being turned in by the other cooks than they are of any
stinkin' camera... the best monitoring is by the coworkers, for
obvious reasons. If cameras are set up that's the same as saying the
entire staff is guilty before the fact, once they've been challanged
then it will be a game for them to screw with the food undetected, a
game any cook will win.

Hair is found in food all the time, even food prepared in your own
kitchen... I don't think a day passes that I don't pick a cat hair out
of my food, I've no idea how many I've eaten. I don't think anyone
has ever been harmed by eating a hair... anyone telss me they never
had a pubic hair in their mouth then they are a lousy sex partner.

But if a food handler wanted to spit in the food there is no way to
catch them with a camera. And food handlers cough and sneeze just
like everyone else, just as they come to work with colds and worse.
All anyone can do is trust that the food they're served at restaurants
is as wholesome as restaurant food can possibly be, which isn't very
even under the best of circumstances... restaurant kitchens are
generally pretty nasty... that's why those doors... and then you are
willing to dine all crowded in with hordes of people you don't know,
you have no idea what diseases they carry and yet you have no qualms
about eating right along side... you have no idea if your waitress
washed her hands after changing her tampon.

And anyway, anyone who consumes preground mystery meat from the
stupidmarket really should not be concerned about what/who is in
restaurant food. I mean like you order a hot dog and you worry about
the grill guy's hands... gimme a break, who knows what/who is in
tubesteak.
