Baked apples with sugar and nuts

This is a very simple recipe with just a few simple steps:

* start with some clean healthy unpeeled apples
* cut the upper side leaving a conical space
* pierce the peal with a fork to allow liquid to get out
* group the apples and add sugar in the cut space

I peel and core them, then fill the center with butter and sugar.
Sprinkle over the entire thing with cinnamon and place it into a very
small bowl...

and nuke it until the apple gets soft.

My method is similar except that I use a tablespoon or two of
raisins, brown (turbinado, usually) sugar and a little nutmeg or
cinnamon.

The sugar I use _is_ turbinado (sorry I forgot to add that) but I'll
have to try adding nutmeg for sure.

The raisins sound interesting too.

I mix up some brown sugar, cinnamon, raisins, maybe some walnuts,
spoon it into the cavities I cut out, a bit of butter on top and
bake them in the oven.

They are fritter good deep fried. We used to get apple fritters
at a local pioneer day. They were wonderful. I made them a few
times myself and they were pretty good. Just peel and core the
apples, slice them into rings, dip the rings in oil until golden
brown. You can eat them straight, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar
or maple syrup.

Last year we were at similar venue and I saw the sign for the
apple fritters and stood in line for 45 minutes. They were
bloody awful. They looked more like chunks of apple in a heavy
dough. Maybe they forgot the baking powder, but they were like
balls of rubber.

You can wrap the whole mess in pie crust and bake it as well!

Nah...won't go with the satay and saffron rice that's for dinner...maybe

Who/ What is HEB?

Tim Hortons has a raised doughnut with chunks of apple, some
cinnamon in them and glazed that they sell as apple fritters. The
real apple fritters are just apple rings battered and deep fried.
They are best eating hot out of the fryer. They are incredible.

HEB is a grocery chain in Texas.
I had the best bagel the other day. It was an apple bagel, which was
just plain bagel baked with a thin slice of whole apple draped over it
(probably after the simmering bath, eh?) with cinnamon sugar sprinkled
on and then baked normally. The bagel shop then toasted it and served it
with a light schmear of cream cheese. It was wonderful and I had to
fight the urge to go back for a second.

HEB is our local Grocery Store chain.

HEButts. (just abbreviated HEB).
There are two of them just in this itty bitty town of San Marcos. ;-)
One big one, one little one. The little one is closest to me but I have
to hit the big one for some items.

I understand... but I find yumminess in both versions.
