Sounds to me like some of you are jealous of my State but I will ignore
that for now.
I will not defend myself for saying dry county or God.. It matters not to
me how you people feel about drinking or so said "Bible Belters". My husband
died four years ago so I moved up to the lake..I am an alcoholic but have
been sober for 10 years. I also do not go to church but do enjoy my right to
pray and to speak of God. I could care less if the counties are dry or if
there were liquor stores on every corner. I was merely attacking back at the
attacker. You people have taken what I said and made it into something bad.
You know nothing ! I am not the one that voted these counties dry ... they
were like this way before I ever moved up here.. I dont try and impose my
religious beliefs on anyone...unlike some of you in here you think everyone
should agree with what you believe in. I have lost my interest in how anyone
of you survives the winter.. I really dont care any longer. Certain people
in here have made a simple post into an awful thing. Your right... you win
...I loose... I will never impose a question of any kind again on this group.
That's sad too..I really use to enjoy dropping in and reading recipes and
getting hints... and some of you call yourselves Chefs. I think not !

Lynette Hebert did not write that. Sheldon did. Get it right if you are
going to get in this.

You'd be the last to laugh. Jonesboro, Arkansas is in a dry county. But
for $5 you can buy a "membership" to the 501 Club or the Italian restaurant
downtown. Or you can just go to the Holiday Inn bar and have a mixed drink
or wine or whatever you want. The folks who keep voting to keep it "DRY"
are apparently also the ones at the private clubs tossing back a few before
they go home to the little Missus who insists on believing it's a "dry
county". Yeah, right

It's a funny thing about dry counties. You can't buy liquor legally, but there
always seems to be a thriving bootleg market. When I was much younger I went
on a short vacation with a small group of friends. We were not of age at the
time. We arrived in the small town where we were going to camp out. We stopped
at the gas station and asked if there were any bootleggers around. We were
told to go to the first street on the left and go to the second house. If he
didn't have any, go to the next one, and if he was out, try the place across
the street.

The people who make huge profits from the sale of illegal drugs would be the
biggest losers.

Hi Lynn. I live in Massachusetts. It is rare for us to be
snowed in for more than a day--or maybe 2 if one is a cautious
driver like I am. :-) One gets lots of warning about the
storms, so it is easy to stock up. The stores can get rather
crowded with last-minute shoppers though, and usually the milk
and bread areas are bare. (I sometimes end up there at such
times doing my normal shopping--and totally forgetting that
this is an issue.)

Canada is a cold country. It was an insulin free country until we leaglized
this medicine last year. I can now stock up with medicine for the whole
winter; witness the Montreal ice storm a few years back. It is not unusual
for us to get 'weathered in' for weeks at a time. In autumn we load up with
dried beans and smoked meats and treated water and of course wood in case
our natural gas or heating oil supply is shut off. Lots of red beans and
rice and creative soups. Sometimes we are lucky and a moose is driven down
from the mountains and we can shoot him if he ends up in our neighbourhood.
Male moose only though. My brother shot a female one year and was arrested
for it and did time and had to attend classes in moose sexism. We keep this
'woods meat' outside in a meat shed. It's always frozen. Also we store
limes and lemons in order to prevent scurvy; much like the Englishmen on the
high seas in years past.

Hmmm... I find your post a bit odd as I've been to Canada a number of times
and have not seen the situations you mentioned (especially the part about
insulin). Perhaps I was ill informed by my friends!

Our Canadian friends have access to grocery stores, beef, restaurants, and
have no concern whatsoever about scurvy.

I assume your brother is now out of prison regarding his crime for moose
sexism and I wish him well and hope he is more PC now!

My brother gets out in 30 days and will do 300 hours of community service
in Moose Factory, Ontario.
