My food saver Tilia V835 will not seal Mason Jars. The jars are new, the lids
are new. It draws a vacuum, the machine stops indicating it's sealed but the lid pops off with no effort. What could be causing this? It does create a vacuum in the cannisters that came with it. |

As I recall, the instructions that came with the lid sealer form my Seal-A-Meal recommend that you warm the lids in water. |

Do the hot water thing one time and they will be OK after that. |

Several people have suggested that I soak the lids in hot water to warm them.
Stupid question...........do I dry them before I use them, use them while they're warm, or like Edwin just said, one soaking should "last a lifetime"? |

If soaking them in hot water doesn't work, make sure that the top lip of the jar is very clean. The only time I've had a problem sealing jars was when a tiny amount of liquid or grease got around the seal - very easy to do when you're filling jars with soup or spaghetti sauce. (A wide mouth canning funnel is very handy to fill without spilling.) Karen |

OK to use dry. The rubber get softer after the first heating. No need to heat for later uses. |

Tom,
There have been good suggestions here, I think the main one is to use the "wide mouth sealer" for better success. But subscribe to the yahoogroup: "FoodSaver". There are folks there with all kind of tricks. Also there is a sort of FAQ with a lot of anwers. Pete pstryjew At att dot net TOM KAN PA wrote: > My food saver Tilia V835 will not seal Mason Jars.
