If soaking them in hot water doesn't work, make sure that the top lip of
the jar is very clean. The only time I've had a problem sealing jars
was when a tiny amount of liquid or grease got around the seal - very
easy to do when you're filling jars with soup or spaghetti sauce. (A
wide mouth canning funnel is very handy to fill without spilling.)
