I always tip and never prepare either; I just use the airlock with
stopper to tilt. I have lumber all over the place and say I'm going to cut a 2x4 for this each time I rack, but never get around to it. It's one of those roundtoits that you can never get to. Additionally, I always have several sanitized, clear bottles on hand so that the last, final, nasty , dreggie bit of a racking can go into the sanitized bottle then into the refridge for settling and later disposition (we have a small diameter siphon the siphons directly from the dregg bottle to a glass). What we haven't done is prop up the bottle the night before, but it sounds like a great idea. |

It does seem like a good idea, Nick, but I've never done that. I do tip the
jar slightly during racking. The thing is that you'll probably rack a couple of times before bottling so very little sediment will be in the jar by that time, anyway.
