Default Wanted Cabernet Grapes

Does anyone have any information on how this years grapes are progressing?
I'm keen to find a cheep source for around 20-30 cases of either Ruby
Cabernet or Cabernet Sauvignon grapes (or a blend of both). I'm currently in
the northern suburbs of Melbourne Vic but am willing to either travel or pay
for freight for good grapes.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks Mike,
Yes it is the season here in Australia. At the time of posting my message
you would have thought I was in the northern hemisphere. However, since
posting that message, and in the last week, grapes have appeared in
abundance. Even roadside traders are popping up. Now my decision appears to
be how do I know which grapes to buy.

Last year I made a straight Ruby Cabernet. This year I'd like to make a Cab
Sav / Merlot or Cab Sav / Shiraz would 60/40 be about right for those
varieties respectively.

Vinify seperately and then conduct blending trials until you find the
blend you like best. That's what I'd do, FWIW.

Now I know I live in the wrong country, all I ever
get on the side of the road is corn.

Hi Charles,

If you ring or visit "Australian Winemakers" next the Victoria Market,
they have plenty of grape growers ads in their window. There seems to
be no shortage of grapes in Victoria... You can expect to pay between
$1.50 and $2.00 per kg.

Regards

Those are nice prices for vinefera. I paid ~$1.50/kg for my baco noir in
the fall. I wonder what postage would be from Victoria to Ontario.
