As i've said before, I just got a winemaking kit....
so where do you keep your "stuff" acid test, hydrometers, brushes, camden. in a kitchen drawer? on a box on the floor? hung on a rack on the door? (forgive me Dr seuss) right now i got the stuff all sitting in my primary next to the TV in the living room. I think i am going to put the primary inthe kitchen when i do a batch, and am wondering what others do. also, some mentioned making up a bottle of sanitizer, can this keep? I plan on making a batch this spring for practice(wine kit) so I am confident when i do the plums inthe fall |

An unused primary is OK, until you want to use it. I keep much of
that kind of stuff in a pail that a kit came in. Re keeping a batch of sanitizer. Which sanitizer will you be using? Iodophor cannot be stored after mixing. K-meta can. I started out keeping my unused stuff on a shelf in a closset. The hobby
has grown to the point that I now have upwards of 15 carboys, 5 to 15 gal's, in use at any given time. Hence a spare bedrook is now devoted to my winemaking. (It also keeps the kids from moving back in!) This year we hope to build our retirement home and I will be including a wine room with proper temperature controled wine storage for bulk aging and bottled wines. ![]() I went to "Wally World" (AKA Wal-Mart) and picked up a storage box, with lid, long enough to hold my auto-siphon pump and racking tubes and deep enough for the box my acid titration kit is packed in. The width is just right for the shelves in the garage. Everything else -- chemistry, corks, spoons, stirring rod, etc.-- all fit in the remaining volume. Bucket fermenters are nested together with a bit of waxed paper to keep them from sticking and they and the carboys are stored in a crafting/sewing/stuff room that used to be a bedroom when we had kids living with us. That is also the room I use for fermenting since with little traffic going in and out I can control the temperature fairly well. -- Regards, Casey Wilson Freelance Writer and Photographer |

I think buying toys to make and test the wine is my second hobby. I have beakers and flasks, burettes, boiling flasks, all of that down there. Joe |

I'll rig up some type of cardboard cover to keep the light out, but it really wont get direct sunlight. wisht the tube that stores the Hydrometer would fit in the tester. need to find a vase to put it in so it doesnt roll around |

Oh, I forgot. I did buy a set of plastic trays on wheels. It has 3 drawers
in a housing. I keep my chemicals in one, my corks and shrink caps in one and some of my tools in one. I can wheel it around wherre I am working. Got in at at my local Asian Import Store - Walmart. I also have some Sevile Stainless Steel Racks for my Carboys and wine bottle storage. Fairly inexpensive and can usually be found at Sam's.
