Default Screw (Stelvin) Capper

Hi
I am thinking about purchasing a screw capper suitable for doing small
batches of wine.
Any body had any experience with this type of thing??
Suggestions on make and cost??
How easy are they for the average bloke to setup for different bottles and
caps etc??

Fred

Fred:

Tough question to answer. I don't know what products are available in
Australia, nor what 'small batch' means to you. Also, I have been led
to believe that Australia is ahead of North America in the use of
Stelvin caps.

So question #1, much more important than your questions....are you
rich? Yes, I'm asking if you are a millionaire with money to burn.

No this is not spam. My understanding is that in North America, there
are no cappers suitable for home wine makers or even for Ferment on
Premise type stores. They are just plain too expensive, space
consuming etc.

I did some google'ing, and the following site has some semi-automatic
cappers that can do 1000 bottles/hour ...
http://www.adelphi.uk.com/manufactur...aticCapper.asp

Let us know what you find.

Hi Steve

Definately not a millionaire.

Small batch to me means 400 - 500 bottles.

Largest batch (at present) about 6000 bottles.

Just the price of stelvin cap at the moment about a third of the price of a
good cork.
Bottle price now the same and the way the volumes of stelvin bottling going
will be cheaper than cork mouthed bottles very shortly.
No cork taint.
Starting to get interested in converting.

just about all our bottling equipment comes from Italy or europe so thought
the states would have similar supplies to us.

Hate buying new equipment without some kind of feedback from users.

regards

Default Screw (Stelvin) Capper

Hi Steve

Have worked at companies that bottled wine.
Seen literally millions of litres of wine bottled under stelvin caps.
Always been on big bottling lines putting through up to 22,000 bottles an
hour.

Looking for something a little smaller.
Just wondered in any small winemakers had gone this route before me

Fred:

I trust you noted that my post said 'home winemakers'. There are few
if any wineries hanging around here. Our standard batch size is 30
bottles.

Try asking again at www.winepress.us. I know there are a couple of
winery owners that visit there. I suggest that your first post
indicate batch size. Otherwise you will get a ton of home winemakers
answering.
