Default 2007 Perrot-Minot Chambertin Clos de Beze

I had a ownership interest for many years in a wine distributorship
that handled among others, Martine's portfolio of wines. I had the
opportunity to buy a lot of Burgundy at a significant savings. During
that time I bought a lot of Mortet, Leroy, Nicholas Rossignol,
Brocard, Perrot-Minot etc and was afforded the opportunity to visit
these makers many times. Of these wines, I suspect that Perrot-Minot
was the most interesting parcel from the standpoint of how the wines
have evolved under Christophe Perrot-Minot. I opened a bottle of 2007
Chambertin "Clos de Beze" last night to assess the his wine from the
2007 vintage. It's fair to say that imo, the wines are really
becoming essential Burgundy. This wine was a clear bright burgundy in
the glass somewhat paler in color than earlier vintages. The nose was
pure mineral at first with a bit of cherry and apple pie spice. WIth
time the nose opened up a bit and violets, raspberry and earthy
mushrooms joined the mix. Medium bodied on the palate, the wine was a
bit subdued on the palate but gained power with time. This is a very
transparant, terroir driven wine that appears to be slightly shut down
at the moment but may, in time, become an incredible example of what
Burgundy should or can be. I won't touch another bottle for at least
5-7 years.

I liked Rossignol quite a bit and she decided to drop the distribution
of his wines. Not sure why.

Tried to get an answer from her the last time she was here in Santa Fe
promoting her wines, no luck.

I'm trying to be nice. I may be mistaken but iirc but prior to 2005
Becky Wasserman imported his wines and for some reason he gave Martine
some distribution of his 2005/2006 vintages then moved it all back to
Becky Wasserman.

So does Becky Wasserman distribute to all of the US? I really like the
Rossingol Burgundies and they were a great price.

No but you can contact her and view all the data if you just google
her name or Le Serbet imports.

I've generally found the Perrot Minot wines to push my personal envelope re extraction and oak, but I haven't had recent vintages. I did recently see a retailer that I trust (Grapes) raving about the 08 Perrot Minot lineup, I should try again.

I think that 2005 Burgs in general were ripe and concentrated and
within context his 2005's were big but reasonable given the vintage.
The 2006 and on seem to be more and more towards the middle. I'm not
a fan of tense or shrill burgundy but I'm not a fan of oaky jammy
wines either.
