TN: Chambolle and Chablis
Wednesday was a nice nice on the patio, with veal chops with sage,
broccoli rabe, salad, and the 2006 Hudelot-Noellat Chambolle Musigny. Pretty open from the start, pretty red fruits, hint of mocha, earth. Fairly assertive acids, but balanced (for my tastes) by plenty of ripe fruit. A bit of tannin on finish. Nice, think will improve. Good deal for $25, should I get more or just put away my remaining bottle? I'm over budget for this month. B+ Thursday's roast chicken, wheatberry salad, and Indian carrots were accompanied by the 2007 Domaine Costal "Les Truffieres" Chablis. A Kermit import, there's some connection to Raveneau. Pleasant, balanced, medium bodied, with citrus and mineral. Nice enough, but not compelling. Fair deal at $20. B Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency. |
