Default 4 older sweet German wines an 1 very rich US riesling

All of the wines to be described had been stored properly since
release, had high fills, and nocork or other issues.

Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese 1975, J.J. Prum, AP Nr. 2576511476. Not as
rich as the 1971 04 1976, but has nearly perfect balance and much
complex fruit. Moderate, clean, old Riesling petrol character. Light
yellow. Delicate floral, white fruit, and some mineral character. Easy
to drink and holding well.

Steinberger Riesling Auslese 1976, AP Nr. 33050 05377. Not as rich and
tropical as many other top 1976 auslesen. Apricots and other yellow
fruit. Good balance and moderate old Riesling petrol character. Very
good, but not one of the top auslesen of 1976. Holding well.

Bickensohler Steinfelsen Rulander Auslese 1976, Winzergenossenschaft
Bickensohl am Kaiserstuhl (Baden), AP Nr. 022/076/77. Bright gold
color. Intense taste and bouquet. Considerable floral component -
perhaps honeysuckle or jasmine. Much very ripe fruit such as apricots
and pears - a fruit salad. Honey. Very long. Very untypical, but this
is no complaint.

Freemark Abbey Edelwein Gold Sweet Johannisberg Riesling , Napa
Valley, 1976, 10.5% alcohol, 16.4% residual sugar. Deep old gold
color. Very intense bouquet and taste. Extremely sweet, but very well
balanced by enough acid. High viscosity and mouth coating, such as for
a light syrup. Very long finish. Some clean old Riesling petrol
character. A sweet wood note - perhaps sandalwood. Honey-like taste
with complex mixture of yellow fruit. Holding very well. About TBA
richness. One of the best examples of older California late harvest
Riesling.

Schlossbockelheimer Kupfergrube Riesling Auslese 1976, Staatlichen
Weinbaudomanen Niederhausen - Schlossbockelheim, AP Nr. 1 750
053/49/77. Bright yellow color. Very intense bouquet and taste.
Apricots, yellow peaches and other mixed fruit. Moderate clean old
Riesling petrol character. Long finish. Very high quality and holding
well.

I drank these over a few weeks and just now am posting comments.

Thanks for the excellent and interesting notes. Even if I am unlikely
to ever taste these wines, I find the notes fascinating.
But this time also a bit frustrating in the case of the FA Edelwein- I
actually purchased a bottle of this at a good price a few years ago,
but when it came time for shipping it was discovered to be a heavy
leaker with low ullage, so I passed. Ah, what could have been,,,,,,

I had two bottles if the Freemark Abbey Edelwein from 1976 and 1978.
Surprised they would hold this long. I drank mine in the late 90's but
the tasting notes agreed and were wonderful wines. Thanks for your
notes.
