Last night Betsy wanted to use up some extra peanut sauce, made an old
favorite , a chicken salad with red cabbage and the sauce. I went Riesling, the 2004 Gunderloch Nackenheim Rothenberg Spatlese*(Rheinhessen). Big Rhine powerhouse of a wine, peaches and petrol, sweet for Spatlese (at least for my more Mosel palate), good length, some spiciness. I revisit over several hours, I like it best when it's really cold, seems to give it more acidic backbone. This probably deserved to age another 10 years, but it was quite nice now. B/B+ Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.* |
