Default 2004 Chianti

(OT prelude) Yesterday was long. A busy day at office, then home to
change. Betsy had rehearsals all day, and freelanced an Orpheus
educational thing in evening. Meanwhile, I was speaker at an honors
societies induction at local college. Figured I'd make dinner when I
got home. What I didn't count on was a professor falling off stage
halfway through. Basically ok , but ambulance and EMTs meant the
ceremony stopped for half-hour. By time I was finally free, no time
for cooking. So I ordered a pizza.

So, time for Chianti. I've been waiting to open the 2004 Fontodi
Chianti Classico. Really rich, a little bigger than the '04 Felsina.
Pure red and black cherry fruit, a little leather, hint of dried
orange and flowers. Gets more floral with time. Good acidity, fairly
substantial tannins for a regular CC. This could probably age a bit,
but I think it would also be good with a meaty dish, like bistecca
alla fiorentina. It was a bit much for the pizza, but enjoyed
afterwards. B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent
wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't
drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no
promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
