Anyone had the subject tea? How does it taste? Cocoa notes in it, I
read, but what's the main flavor characteristic? I got it for mornings when I'm having it particularly rough. Hopefully the hot water can at work is hot enough for a black tea. I used it for some bagged chai today, and it seemed to do pretty well, and I've heard reports of it making the 165F (on a gas stove at least) sound, which I'm guessing is either rapid nucleation on the heat transfer surface or some kind of gas coming out of solution... I'm bringing a thermometer to it on Monday. I'm going to revisit the Tuo Cha, with a beginning rinse for 30 seconds or so. It really bothers me there's a tea of which I didn't like the flavor. I usually like, or aquire, the taste of just about anything. Steve |

I got some of this, from IPoT, at a Whole Foods. I am by no means any kind of Assam expert, nor is Assam my favorite tea, and I probably won't answer this adequately for you. Having said that, I was not impressed with this tea. I certainly taste/smell *no* "cocoa" notes (one or two Keemun's are the only teas I've tried in which I detect cocoa notes). Though in my experience the differences between higher-end Assams is small, this one just seems to me to be a little lacking. My partner and I (well, OK, mostly I) have been on a search for a top Assam recently. The Moran, to me, isn't in that category, though my partner seems more satisfied with it. To me, something like http://www.specialteas.com/product_d...04+66+1&cid=13 (though the current lot doesn't seem quite as good as last year's) or especially Upton's TA77 are better. Based on this, if you wanted to order from IPoT, I'd get their Meleng, though I haven't tried it yet. Doug |
