Beef Stew
Recipe By :From Black Creek Pioneer Village 1 pound Beef Stew Meat 1/2 cup green peas 1/4 cup Barley, Pearled 2 carrots 3 potatoes 1 onion Flour Salt Pepper 1 bay leaves -- (1 to 2) Thyme Sage Parsley Cut the beef into small cubes. Roll them in flour and season with salt and pepper. Heat some fat in a saucepan and brown the meat. Cover meat with water, add bay leaves and, sparingly, garden herbs tied in a bag. For the last hour of cooking, add onion, carrots, potatoes and peas. If desired, the stew may be thickened with barley during the last 15 minutes of cooking.
